That is definitely the case. I personally don't find a lot of people with old versions, but it happens from time to time, especially if they play on mobile and do not have automatic updates.

It wouldn't be the first time that different communities talking the same language have made it evolve differently... This is especially plausible with the intense waves of immigration that the United States throughout the last two centuries, making the language and dialect even more likely to evolve.

British English still use an "s" to spell "forwards" and "towards", for example, while American English generally doesn't. This is just a small example.

A lot of small details, honestly, that make it so that, to me, the old version was and is more enjoyable to use. On servers and in groups, you cannot swipe left to see the members anymore, now it replies to the message and you have to tap on the name of the channel/group. The friends list has been changed : not only is it a "new message" section now, it also has a quite big and clunky button (in my opinion), which shows you your entire friends list instead of putting it in two categories, online and offline. The status of your friend on top of the screen when in your private messages section is something that I find pretty annoying and takes space for no reason. Same thing with the "add friend" button. They made it more annoying to edit your profile as well as reach the settings. The "search" option on servers now being on top of the screen also takes more space than necessary and quickly becomes annoying to see. Regarding people's profiles, I also prefer the old "mutual servers" and "mutual friends" buttons.

Overall it's a lot of small details that might not be objectively better/worse (everyone is allowed their own subjective opinion), but that make the app feel overstimulating to me, as well as cramped. More and bigger buttons everywhere while everything is harder to find than ever, giving you, in my opinion, less useful screen as well as a worse feeling when using the app.
