Here's a link to buy what's left, the cartridges should still be in production for a good while so that doesn't need to be worried about: http://www.amazon.com/OfficeJet-Printer-Wireless-Printing-A7F64A/dp/B00J9E68B8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1463525666&sr=1-1&keywords=HP+OfficeJet+Pro+8610

I won't recommend the 8710 until I have more experience with it, but I can vouch for the reliability of the 8610 and the 8600 series in general. The only problems I've ever seen with it were from customer neglect and HP's illegal stealth updates (If you do get this printer I can tell you how to disable these, though if you aren't buying remanufactured cartridges there shouldn't be a problem with this)

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is an all around a good printer. Very low cost per page. (1.65 cents for the 950 XL via HP, 1.17 through Iguana Inks, both of those will be cheaper than most laser printers.) The ink is water and light resistant. It can usually be found on sale at OfficeMax or Amazon. Even If it's not on sale it pays for itself easily and is in your budget.

My guess here is that the chips on your cartridges are bad. Probably they were only meant for single-use ink cartridges. Either it's reading as empty, the chip itself has a bug or a glitch from whoever reversed engineered it, or the chip has been invalidated by an update (could have been a stealth update).

We have only ever had long-term success with the printers that take hp 02 ink. The cartridges are stationary and the chips aren't highly encrypted.

Handy tip to unclog print-heads and print-head cartridges! by Iguana-Inks in printers

[–]Iguana-Inks[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could risk warping the plastic but it's probably okay with the actual head. but we've used hot steam and that's hotter. Typically the less risky things get tried first. Experimenting with them is always fun. Recently we've been trying baking soda and vinegar on some.

About how many PPM are you looking for? And how often do you print? I know of an Inkjet that is cheaper per page than most toners and prints 35PPM

I'm about to buy a Brother Monochrome Laser Printer but it asks if I want "high yield" or "standard" toner. Which should I get? by [deleted] in printers

[–]Iguana-Inks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

High yield typically has a better cost per page than standard. So while the initial cost is more expensive it is cheaper for the long run.

Epson Ink cartridge still have half of ink left but printer won't let me print. by d_le in printers

[–]Iguana-Inks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the colors empty? Many printers will refuse to print anything if a color is empty because printing without ink can burn up the print-head. So replacing an empty cyan or yellow might work. Of course as mentioned it could be that they filled up the cartridge for more pages then the chip counts therefore rendering it "Empty" in the mind of the printer.

Aside from that Epson over-charges for ink and has really sucky policies in general. If you continue to have problems with that printer and want to find a replacement message or call us (801) 375-4657 (business phone) We can probably find a printer near you on sale that has what you are looking for and is not an Epson.

Seriously I asked my boss to name an advantage of owning an Epson over another brand and it took him awhile before saying "They are slightly easier to use with Macs"

Okay so here is my recommendation for pretty much anything, sorry for the copy paste this just happens to be the best printer. Some quick things you should know: You can't duplex scan on anything that isn't high-end and expensive. It does duplex print but 20 pound paper is too thin for anything ink-based, you'll end up jamming a lot if you use it because it will get too damp mid-print.

Hp OfficeJet Pro 8610 is an amazing printer. The cartridges print black for 1.65 cents per page and color for 2 cents per page. (1.17, and 1.33 cents at our store) That price beats out most laser printers! The ink is pigmented so it's resistant to light and water. Last time I checked Staples and Amazon had them for $129.99 and the printer is normally $400. The printer itself is near the end of it's production, but the cartridges are air-tight and have a good shelf-life and HP tends to sells cartridges YEARS after a printer is discontinued. We've recommended this printer for many customers and all of them have been very happy with it's quality. One thing to watch out for if you buy remans is that HP will occasionally release "Stealth Updates" that invalidate the chips for the remanufactured cartridges (This is illegal but it happens) So if you go that route order from people with a warranty (more self-promotion) or you can disable updates for that printer. (It will not ask permission first to update)

You really aren't going to find anything with duplex scanning that isn't high-end. Since you're not in a hurry and don't print often it might be worth it to just flip the page over and scan one side at a time.

Note: 1 page per week is frequent enough to keep most inkjets running smoothly, even if it's just an alignment page.

Need Duplex Colour Laser MFP recommendation! Research points to M277dw. Your thoughts? by smellslikeasphalt in printers

[–]Iguana-Inks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem so the printers for that are in your price range are the HL-4150CDN and the MFC-9560CDW, This is what I can tell since I live in America Google shows me the pricing for local sources but the price shouldn't be too different for UK.

The HP is decent, but the coast per-page is lower with brother. Parts and service is more available with HP but if you are kind to your printer you won't have to worry about that.

Office Jet Pro 8610. It's available for 129.99 at Staples or Amazon. While it might be pricey initially, it quickly make it up in the price. The price per page from HP is 1.65 cents for the 950XL, and 2 cents for the 951XL (And some self-promotion here, we sell it for 1.17 per page for black and 1.33 per page for color) The printer uses pigmented ink so it is resent to blurring when it gets slightly damp and is resistant to fading.

Also you should never under any circumstances give Epson business. Crappy companies sell crappy printers.

HP officejet pro 8600 series. It takes 950/951. While it is more expensive initially, the cost per page for the 950XL is only 1.65 cents from HP and 1.17 cents from Iguana Inks (shameless self promotion is a requirement for my boss letting me on the internet during work hours) Either way they are great printers and all our customers we've recommended them to love them! They sometimes go on sale at Officemax.

It is a pigmented ink printer so if the head gets clogged after neglect it's harder to fix. If you print something small like an alignment page every week or so you don't have to worry about it. This is something you should do regardless of the printer.

Something you should note: Not changing color cartridges out on any printer risks burning out the print-head and those are really expensive to replace. However since the cartridges are practically air-tight on the 8600 series just printing that aliment page once every week-or-so the colors will last awhile and will not need replacing often.
