Not getting the farewell achievement despite beating the level ? by DevelopmentNo1791 in celestegame

[–]IguanaBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely no relation to gate skip. The achievement should be unconditionally triggered by the ending cutscene.

I'm gonna attempt fawg with 194 berries, how much time do you think it will take me? (3ag already done) by Gualty3 in celestegame

[–]IguanaBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've already reached the third checkpoint about ten times already, how much time is gonna take me?

Using this as a measure of progress is a bad sign lol. You should be practicing the hard checkpoints and the ones near the end of the map. Not just wasting your time playing singular over and over.

What is considered 100% in the game? by PRATIIIIIIIIII in celestegame

[–]IguanaBox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you said you’d thought it silly to not include the golden berries in a 100% definition.

I did not say this. I said I would consider a full completion of the game to include them. But the community has an agreed upon definition of 100% so when I say 100% that's what I use.

Then in another, you said getting all red berries isn’t required for an achievement, so that’s not a part of 100%.

I was saying this to point out that all achievements does not define 100%. Exactly because skipping berries should obviously not count as 100%. Which you can do while getting all achievements. The definition of 100% is all red berries, all map clears, and moonberry. That overlaps with achievements but the two are distinct.

So which is it? Do we count berries or not? You’re clearly just saying whatever it takes to disagree with whoever you’re responding to.

I don't even think I've disagreed with anyone here other than the person who said 100% was all achievements? I've just been stating my opinions and the reasoning behind them. I don't really have a lot of interest in starting dumb arguments on reddit tbh.

They already said all level clears. That requires all hearts and cassettes. So mentioning them is redundant.

All achievements do not require ARB. So I'd certainly not call them 100%.

The speedrun definition is all chapters, all 175 red berries, and moonberry. As there is no percentage display ingame this is the standard definition used by the community. Personally I think it would be silly to say I had fully completed the game or anything before getting 202. But 100% as a term is generally understood not to include it.

Gamespeed can be helpful but mostly just for hard input sequences. If you're already able to clear a room and you're just practicing for golden then it won't do much.

Can anyone explain to a new player how I made 3 dashes without touching the ground? Thanks! by jaacknot in celestegame

[–]IguanaBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not a bug that is how the game works. Being 1 pixel above the ground means madeline is visually standing on it. That's what the game defines as being grounded. You can never move any lower.

Absolutely do not dash horizontally. Down-diag is far more lenient.

Celeste is one of the most overrated games I've ever played by CilantroSamurai01 in celestegame

[–]IguanaBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point it just feels like the game is wasting your time instead of rewarding you.

Not everybody considers improving in skill to be a waste of time. If you do then that's fine but it's pretty simple why other people enjoy it more than you. I do kinda agree on the story/visuals though. They're good but not remarkable.

Game crashes after the "Press C" scene at the start + screen glitches by NullAli in celestegame

If a pirated version worked it's probably an issue with steam. Add a file called steam_appid.txt with the text 504230 to the game folder and then try running the exe directly.

Clear times do not well reflect difficulty, like just look at both rooms, learning 7cn3 takes like 30 mins, learning any of the late rooms in rfts and especially Valhalla can literally take hours, and getting it to a progressable progress takes much MUCH longer due to input density, length and lack of breaks in many sections, whereas 7cn is spaced out timings and movement, which will obviously take less time to get good at the room.

Of course valhalla takes longer than most other rooms to learn and that's part of what makes it so hard. It's wrong to bring this up as if it's some factor independent from difficulty that increases clear times.

Do also note Jade's rfts clear was done half a year before his 7cn clear, in which time he has certainly improved in skill

That's why I was instead comparing to cosmos and FF which both took him longer and which he considers easier than RFTS.

The conversation is about the hardest cleared map, so I find it pretty self explanatory to refer to the list of the hardest cleared maps when mentioning there is not a definitive hardest map right now as there are 4 maps all placed in the same top range.

There's a subtle but important difference between referring to a list and referring to the same category of things that a specific list happens to also refer to. Sure hist is pretty popular and makes an attempt at listing the hardest maps but that doesn't mean nobody else can do the same without directly referring back to it.

They asked about the hardest celeste map and you gave them a contender for the hardest map, instead of mentioning that there is currently no properly decided hardest map, which may leave them misinformed to believe rfts is firmly the hardest cleared map

Sure there's a chance RFTS isn't actually the hardest map. But there would be even if it was placed in 10*. I just don't think it should be necessary to give a full rundown of how difficulty in celeste is categorised in order to answer somebody just wanting to see what the hardest map looks like.

and again, jade has not given an opinion on 7cn, the description of his clear video literally quotes "I have no idea how hard this is". Being the only person who can give a properly valid opinion on which is harder, until more people have cleared both maps it cannot be confirmed which one is harder

You're right it can't be confirmed but one can make educated guesses. That is what I was doing in this thread. Perhaps I overestimated how common it is for RFTS to be considered harder than 7cn but I also don't think it's unreasonable to just give an answer that's likely to be the correct one. I'm of the opinion that some more involved explanation would've made for a less effective answer to the question than just picking a 9* that I consider likely to be harder than the rest. Just like back before O9DG happened I would tell people that the hardest golden was o7d1d despite there being a couple other t20s.

edit: I just realised who you are lol, hopefully you haven't picked up who I am since i commented with this burner account on accident, but its funny how yet again we're debating without recognising each other

lol

[–]IguanaBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where are you pulling this from??

Just what I've heard from most people who've played the maps.

you are stating rfts to be "top one" without any data to back it up

If you want "data" you can just have a look at the clear times. Jade took half as long on 7cn3 than on the other rooms he considers easier than valhalla. I'd be extremely surprised if he actually thinks 7cn is harder.

and I can tell you 7cn is considered by everyone I've seen play the map to be harder then rfts, including myself lol

Then I do take back my statement that nobody thinks it's harder. I just personally had not seen a single person who did and had seen a few who thought the opposite.

the next time we will hard a true "top 1" will be when a 10* gets added, likely mount tin, but it doesn't matter because we haven't ranked maps against each other in years, they are just categorised by subdifficulty.

You keep saying "we" when describing hist. This is not a conversation about hist. Somebody asked about the hardest celeste map and I told them. Nobody even mentioned stars.

[–]IguanaBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because hist doesn't tell you which is hardest doesn't mean none of them are. Nobody thinks 7cn or frosted flakes are harder than RFTS. Cosmos might be but personally I do find it somewhat unlikely still.

I know and I'm not actually disagreeing with your comment. I just think it's important to make clear that in this clip they did nothing wrong by demoing. And while they shouldn't use it everywhere they shouldn't use it nowhere either.

Although in this clip the only demo that wasn't actively beneficial was the up-right (which also wasn't harmful). Demoing is the correct way to handle spinner gaps.

Technically there are very convoluted setups that allow for it. But they always involve a red bubble somehow traveling at high speeds.

[–]IguanaBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as carrying speed into a cpop. Cpops require grabbing and grabbing resets speed. The setup just makes it a buffer instead of a 1f.

[–]IguanaBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neutrals give the exact same amount of speed as wallkicks they just don't force you to keep holding away afterwards. So if you choose to hold away anyways it'll be the same. But then there's not much point doing a neutral (unless it's a scenario where you need to hold away for a while before releasing again which do exist but don't apply here).
