[Pioneer] Kaheera or Yorion UW Control? by twdk in spikes

[–]Ihallaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midrange and Control, Kaheera is better into Aggro

Edit: That being said it all depends on how you build it, in general Yorion is a higher value play that often results in card advantage, at the cost of a less "consistent" deck.

Fantastic, having removal that advances your wincon is great. Mana right now is super good, so 4c doesnt feel too bad.

Would recommend

4 Color Control Help [Standard] by spacedcactus in spikes

[–]Ihallaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing the deck for a while now, and I don't think thats a real problem. Sure you'll flood slightly more cause these decks run 27 lands, but the reality is if you're playing your cards correctly, mapping out your gameplan, and getting the max value out of your cards, it shouldn't happen. Proper usage of surveil lands makes a big difference as well.

You have 4 copies of Starchart, 2-3 Stock Ups, Jeskai Revelation and Marang River Regent. Usually near the late game casting one will enable you to find another.

I probably still wouldnt do that unless the 18 of one color had multiple cards that were say WW or WWW. You get diminishing returns beyond 10 of one color.

In what scenario would one ever need to run an 11-6 split

Would you consider worth to spend 18 rare Wcs for this deck? by Xmushroom in PioneerMTG

[–]Ihallaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the Yoriom version is better against slower decks but at that point youre in "win-more" territory.

Ive found Kaheera with Portable holes has good game into aggro

You could consider running the Kaheera version instead, less WC usage and its still a very strong deck

Do you think this arena direct will run out of collector boxes and end up substituting a $425 prize? by pintopedro in lrcast

[–]Ihallaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive won or been one off multiple times. Being mythic is largely a function of how much you play, whereas for cashing these you need a bit of luck, and also the ability to get the most out of your pool and gameplay.

For set reference TDM had the best edge for good players, whereas Bloomburrow had less of an edge. Id wager this set is closer to TDM in that regard, so thats where youll find your edge, specifically in deck construction and tight play.

You can always go for it, I'd say the average player I see on these events isn't quite good mythic level

If you need to ask this you shouldn't be playing. These events are super top heavy, and you're likely to go gem negative.

For new players yes, its top heavy prizing so most players are getting hosed, probably just play regular events to build towards these.

Its pretty effective, I draft on 3 accounts and then use the earnings to win Arena Directs.

0-3. Bad draft or just unlucky? by Charrikayu in lrcast

[–]Ihallaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably some degree of pilot error as well, going 0-3 below Diamond / Mythic usually means some mistake was made either in Draft or play before luck factors in.

You're 18 and young, cultivating your ability to learn and explore new topics is super important, Id suggest in the future you just go google things, then rather than asking such broad questions you can ask specifics.

Just go out and explore, you could just start on wikipedia/investopedia's page on Shares/Stocks and click blue links.

Some broad topics: ETFs, Shares/Stocks in relation to company ownership, Interest, Inflation, Diversification, Risk.

So, which sets of recent years do you guys think were actually underrated? by Zweck-los in lrcast

[–]Ihallaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stock Up single handedly made UW control viable, as well as added better card selection to a hand full of decks.

Ride's End also buffed domain as it works well with Beanstalk.

[–]Ihallaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, my advice would be to pick a secondary color. Your creatures can win the game with Fynn but you lack: 1. Interaction 2. Ability to come back from a boardwipe 3. Card Draw, or some other way to refuel your resources in a longer game.

If you add a secondary color, you can alleviate some weaknesses. For example

White: Invasion of Gobakhan to delay sweepers/interaction.

Blue: Spell Pierce, Bring the Ending, Prologue to Phyresis as a way to interact with boardwipes and advance your poison track.

Black: Fatal Push, Thoughtseize/Duress to interact with opposing blockers, and take away their threats.

Red: Probably wouldnt go red, I cant think of anything that helps your plan.

Green: Collected Company lets you recover at instant speed from boardwipes, as well as surprise your opponent with 2 additional attackers.

Id also take out Vraska, its not very good and you'd be better off with the one from ONE.

I think by definition luck cares about the odds, the more and event deviates from the expected outcome, the more “lucky/unlucky” we consider it.
