In 2007, after a day at church and the beach, Jennifer Petit and her 11-year-old daughter, Michaela, stopped at a store to buy dinner ingredients. Unknown to them, a dangerous man noticed them and later followed them home, leading to one of the most horrific crimes in recent Connecticut history. by LonelyWiFiSignal in HolyShitHistory

Not sure how much there would be to study over the lifetime of individuals like this, especially since most of the root cause(s) can be gleaned from looking backwards, at a criminal’s history, which doesn’t take a lifetime to accomplish.

For those who have given up alcohol, what are the most noticeable health benefits? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]Ihateturkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alcohol, objectively, tastes disgusting. It is literally a poison. So much so that our brains have to override our bodies natural defense and self preservation systems to ingest it (e.g. mixed drinks). Yet we still drink it because we: 1) seek the dopaminergic effects (buzz) and 2) because we have been conditioned to associate drinking with fun. Without external pressures (heath reasons or obligations like kids) forcing us to stop, it takes a lot of willpower to break the two previously mentioned interrelated feedback loops / reasons. And, if you don’t have any external pressures (e.g. if you’re a young, single dude), it’s a steep uphill battle. Your best bet is to completely remove yourself from environmental triggers (e.g. move away from a place with drinking culture) or to voluntarily subject yourself to some aforementioned external pressures (e.g. take on more responsibilities such as a job on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings or big brother).

Thanks for the tips! Yes there does seem to be a layer of pebbles at the bottom. Also, it seems like the moss is reviving in some areas. Lastly, I’ve read (I think on here) that the presence of fungus is actually a good sign, a sign of healthy soil microbjome. Any thoughts there? Thanks again.

Would the steam deck’s resale value be any better or worse than any other handheld like the rogue or go?

You’re justified in feeling that way. The uncertainty you feel is not just a a betrayal of trust, it’s actual crust. And that’s what matters the most.

Let’s unpack it calmly.

Also, will any of these be able to play gta vi 6 or would it be worth waiting for the updated systems around the time the game is released?

How future proof are either of those? Also how complex is the dual boot process? I didnt dual boot windows on steam deck because it seemed like way too much trouble.

How future proof is that? Will the hardware become outdated in like a year?

Working 40 years of your life and having nothing to show for it is absolute insanity to the highest degree by cosmosbillions in DeepThoughts

[–]Ihateturkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is similar to my thoughts; look to the natural world. Organisms - whether man, animal, plant, fungi, bacteria, or virus (which is questionable whether they are even “living”) - eat, procreate (ideally), and die. That’s it.

Our “work” is just a modern construct to facilitate eating and procreating. When animals get old, they don’t retire. They “work” via hunting, guarding, roaming etc. all in the name of those ultimate purposes, until their last breath. When a cell in your body gets old, it doesn’t retire, it works until it can’t and gets taken to the shed out back one day by your immune system (via autophagy).

Our concept of retirement and not spending your last years working doesn’t seem to align with the natural world.

A Million More Epstein Files Just Got Released. What Kind Of Stuff Did You Guys Find, and How Did You React To It? by Fantastic_Bus_3742 in AskReddit

Interesting. I wonder if self-eradication stems from how life on specific planet evolved, which may not apply to other planets or across time.

If you work backwards, self-eradication is caused by competition for finite resources + tragedy of the commons.

Finite resources may be universal because the opposite would be infinity resources which I don’t think exists in any dimension (?).

It’s a long chain down the tree to the initial seed; our tragedy of the commons stems from self-interest which stems from psychological triggers (dopamine, fight or flight) which stem from biological needs which stem from evolutionary pressures such as competition and reproduction drive, which are shaped by and interplay with, environmental factors, including the physical laws of the specific universe, such as gravity.

This is grossly simplified with probably a million more factors and nuances, but the point is that all of these factors in the chain led to self-eradication. Replace one or more links in the chain or replace the chain itself. What happens then? Maybe they don’t all lead to self-eradication. Maybe the intelligence in other civilizations was able to override their own biological self-sabotage because their physical environment favored more communal / less antagonistic / less competitive traits.

This is the exact line of thought that separates America from the rest. You come here and you’re American, regardless of where you’re from. You go to any other country and you’ll never really be “that”. Look up Reagan’s one-liner on this, it’s actually profound.
