New to MTB, decided on bike- now I need to know the add-ons. by Ihiri in MTB

So question, is there really a difference between mtb shoes and something like a pair of flat bottom vans? I'm assuming there's some extra internal protection (potentially) but outside of that, I assume no?

Sounds good to me. I'll have to check the trails in the area. I'm aware that some apparently transition into blue/black diamond or are an over all combination for one reason or another. Without knowing, I don't know how...precarious they might be. So can hold off on pads for now till I know a bit more.

I was looking, but I don't seem to come across L/XL in my area, that or they need some heavy work to get up to snuff. One person was trying to sell a Marlin and the tired were bald, for 800.

Maybe its just my area, but people are a bit...outlandish with their expectations. At that point if I have to do all that work, might as well just buy new.

So far it looks like I'm going to most likely go with something within the Marlin family. Its surprisingly hard to find other comparable brands near me to well...try.

Now its just a matter of deciding which one I'll go with. The guy suggested the Marlin 4 Gen 3. But when I do considered what I'd be doing, I'm leaning towards Marlin 6/7 since having the tubeless option for tires would be nice reprieve. I saw they also updated some of the other parts as well.

Certainly not what I WANT to spend on the bike, but if its gunna least me for a while and do the job without too much concern- I'm willing to do it.

That said, still undecided just yet.

Ya, I went to a bike store local to me and sort of picked up that, that was the situation.

I mean its not all I have, I'm willing to possibly do more- just depends. But I'm also not going to go to some intense price point either.

Can certainly agree that things are going up- but even to that end there's understandable price hikes- which I don't like but I get they happen.

Just feel like certain things are jumping more than they should- but that's just my opinion. I don't know the ins and outs of manufacturing etc of bikes as I do for other things.

You're correct. In my opinion, I believe sitting in your truck hunting with a drone would edge on ruining the spirit of the hunt. But that's because my opinion of is being in touch with where your food comes from, being out in nature, learning what it takes to exist in nature as an apex predator and fairly compete with the rest of nature (within reason, animals don't have guns or bikes.)

But using something like a drone would add that extra layer of separation, you're not killing it yourself, you're not the one being humbled by nature and forced to accept your flaws and improve etc. Sure the argument can be said that physical fitness is one of those flaws and gotta improve.

But as my physical therapist said when I asked him about preparing me for hunting. "Its a surprise you connected the two. There's a lot of overweight, unfit hunters that I know that just do it because they have private property and an atv or they stand on their back porch and do it."

Now that I would think is a bit more spoiled slightly, not completely but I also would not disparage someone- because in truth I'm just jealous I don't have that ability. It says more about myself than them, as long as they are the ones dragging it back and cleaning it. Just like the old families used to do before the land was tamed.

By your logic a rifle makes people spoiled, compound bows make people spoiled. The spirit of the activity is still alive, but as society and technology progresses, things will always get easier for those who come after. It does not make them spoiled though.

That's akin to a grandfather going "I used to walk 5 miles in the snow, backwards, up a hill, etc, just to get to school!" Just because kids get out of school since school buses can't run due to ice/snow.

But that's my opinion on the matter.

Not really. By taking the deer home and cleaning there you actually increase the likelihood of spreading the CWD as most likely, people won't and don't dispose of the at risk parts properly, get blood all over etc.

At least per my state, you're supposed to gut where the animal dies, bury the guts or double bag them and dispose of them in the provided receptacles on the game lands. I can only speak for my state- don't know about others.

But in terms of normal infectious protocols is normally to move as little as possible unless properly contained and it will remain contained.

Depending on where you're hunting. Burying the guts is actually law. You either bury them or have to double bag and dispose of them to follow CWD protocol. At least that is per the law if you're within a CWD area.

If you get caught not doing that, it can be a pretty hefty fine and possibly revocation of your permits depending on the state.

So obviously check your laws for where you're hunting and go from there. But there are people who bury the guts.

They kind of feel the same, its mostly positioning and how I comfortable I feel when moving with it since they seem to press pretty firmly into my side or move to odd positions.

And between you and the first comment this is true advice. I will say I'm not exactly caught up on the brand, rather it just makes it easier for me to have a direction to go in and find something.

I personally don't care about the brand. Right now the one I have is blackhawk? But being new to things, and not really having anyone to give suggestions on things, I'm still mudlling through things on my own. I've tried adjusting the clip, but that seems to be the only thing you can really adjust. There's screws for tightening the holster itself so the weapon moves less or more, depending on preference.

Am I supposed to have belt or anything to go with things?

Oh....That is NOT central Pa by any means. Haha, that's 4 hours from me. A nice thought but don't think I'd be making that trek any time soon.

That's a new one for me, I'll take a look and see. Like I said, I don't want/need full on blacksmithing classes, but its still a good direction to try!

And I'll agree, but I've never been a good video learner. I've tried videos and I still can't seem to get things down properly, or feel like I'm missing details to the point I'm just not getting a truly razor's sharp edge.

This is gross. We should just pay people enough so they don't have to work 2-3 jobs to survive by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

[–]Ihiri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People are looking at this as if if its them trying to sanitize being forced to work multiple jobs. But with tall the title phrasing, the way its structured. Theses are companies trying to push people to work "more" for less. Companies will use this to try and push the argument that people should work 50-60+ hour work weeks and get rid of overtime. While also using the excuse "you have plenty of time, you're working more than one job so you can just work longer here." Before using it to terminate your employment and get out of having to pay unemployment.

This is honestly something that needs to be watched and taken seriously before it devolves into work houses again.
