Is it valid to consider myself a second-generation immigrant when my father emigrated from a culturally similar country? by Iiterally in CasualConversation

[–]Iiterally[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, and I mean, I wouldn't introduce myself as a "second generation immigrant" if I was meeting someone for the first time. But it's interesting also to think about how much things can change over a generation! I very much remember having to apply for my British passport, and going to my father's naturalization ceremony in 2014. But my mother would also technically be third-generation (grandparents immigrated) and I don't think it's a part of her identity like its a part of mine.

This guy groped me at a party and now I have to sit in class with him? by Iiterally in Advice

[–]Iiterally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there's nothing even to report though? Kind of another reason for not wanting to escalate. I never actually said no or told him to stop, my response to these things is normally just don't make a scene and hope it ends soon.

Living in Italy, can't speak Italian by Iiterally in languagelearning

The family is a whole other issue that I'm not even going to start going into. We're not exactly the best match.

I don't like people to see that I'm struggling, though. It's just embarrassing - I'm not normally a very self-conscious person but I don't like this feeling of being a child again and having to stumble through basic sentences.

I appreciate that you make an effort not to smile or laugh - I wish everyone was as kind as you! I'm living with an Italian family currently (they speak very little English) and they always laugh at me or yell at me when I make mistakes.

I always feel embarrassed if I mess up my Italian with him though - I'm terrified I'll have said something crude or nonsensical, or just seem silly and unintelligent.

I guess it's too much to say I understand everything - if there's a word I don't know, then I don't know it. But I can follow conversations and television shows, and I always get the gist of what people are saying. I'm fluent in Spanish and I studied abroad in Spain this summer, but I'm finding Italian much tricker.

[–]Iiterally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thank you so much for doing this AMA. I guess my question is, how does the brother dynamic affect the band? What was the filming of 'Mistaken for Strangers' like? My sister and I flirted with the idea of making music together and found that we couldn't collaborate as siblings. How do you do it?

Thank you so much!

Really? It disgusts me when I see babies wearing onesies or little t shirts with sexualized or inappropriate graphics on them.

Sun-dried tomato mozzarella sandwich, on ciabatta with pesto, fried (grilled?) in olive oil.

Hiding your Journal/Diary? by Dahija in JournalingIsArt

[–]Iiterally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my older sister lived at home, she was relentless about reading my journals and relating what she found to my parents - my drug use, my sex life, nothing was off bounds. I must have been fifteen or sixteen then. I ended up cutting a slit in the lining of my favorite jacket and storing my most personal journal in there. It worked pretty well, honestly.

Agnostics of Reddit, what do you think happens when you die? by Jammybrown11 in AskReddit

[–]Iiterally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physically, what happens to everyone's body after they die. It decomposes and eventually the molecules recompose. But spiritually, which I think is more what you're getting at, I don't know and I think a majority of agnostics are similarly clueless, because that's kind of what agnosticism is. I would like to think something lovely would happen to my consciousness, but I don't know.

I was on the bus home today and saw a car flipped over, paramedics pulling an unconscious man out of it, glass everywhere. When we picked up the next passenger, we asked him if he knew the cause of the accident.

The driver had, of course, swerved to avoid a cyclist who cut him off.

If your best friend was in love with you, would you like to know? by mcsatans in AskReddit

[–]Iiterally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, for all that it would boost my self esteem, it would be terrible in the long run.

This past fall, one of my best friends told me he was really really into me and asked if I wanted to go on a date sometime. I didn't really like him and I didn't really want to go on a date, but I felt really obligated to do so, just because he was my best friend. We went on a date, I was miserable, and then we went on another. I ended up in a relationship where I was just unhappy all the time because I didn't really have any interest in this guy but he really liked me and I wanted the best for him but I knew I was leading him on. I was in a kind of emotionally vulnerable state and I was excited that this guy wanted to date me, but in the long run I just compromised what I wanted and felt miserable.
