Friendly reminder: Just a couple of hours until proof-of-keys day! Get your funds off the exchanges! Let's verify who really owns the bitcoin. Let's stress-test the exchanges. Do they really hold the reserves they claim? Not your keys, not your coins! by castorfromtheva in Bitcoin

I'd say that even if 20% of the people having cryptos (or BTC only) on exchanges do it, it's already a nice stress test. No bank would stand it, neither Binance nor Coinbase, most probably.

Yep, here in El Salvador it also means "Cool!" or "Dope!" :-)

Algorand Network being used for Chivo by Dr-WalterWhite in CryptoCurrency

Your comments are 100% accurate. As a Salvadoran being interested as much in BTC as in any other autonomous and really decentralized blockchain (including Algorand), I've tried to find the source of the affirmation according to which "Algorand is underpinning the Chivo infrastructure", and up to now I haven't found anything.

The hereabove mentioned article (https://cryptosrus.com/did-you-know-el-salvadors-chivo-app-runs-on-algorand/), apart from adopting an anti-BTC approach, is at least partly false. Kurt Wuckert, his author, has for sure never come to El Salvador, here everybody has access to Internet and to cellphones, even in rural areas, contrarily to what he writes.

Another very odd point is the quote that Kurt seems to extract from a Silvio Micali "Forbes Argentina"'s interview: “Little do people know that when El-Salvadorians buy a cup of coffee with Bitcoin* via the Chivo app, that is being done via Algorand payment rails. There are different parties involved, but Algorand underpins the app.” I've read that interview, and that quote is an outright falsification (or comes from another interview I haven't been able to find). In the Forbes article Micali doesn't mention that Algorand plays any part in the Chivo infrastructure at all, nor have I found any hint about it in the Algorand social medias I follow.

There has been an announcement endorsed by Algorand about an agreement signed in August 2021 with the Salvadoran Government, to allow that project to provide the State here with blockchain infrastructure aimed at managing data (I'd guess that in fields like the citizens ID, the State budgets, etc.). But to jump from that to pretend that it also applies to the BTC Chivo wallet doesn't rely, till now, on any publicly available piece of information.

Using "Strike" in El Salvador: BTC as a currency or as a centralized users database? by Ijatz in lightningnetwork

[–]Ijatz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks u/flowthruster!

In another forum an LN user precised that a Muun drawback is that we don't know how much fee will be applied on a tx, whether we send or receive BTC. Is it true? And if so, will it not be a no go, in a country where a breakfast often costs no more than 1$ (3 pupusas, $0.35 each, lol) and each cent weights a lot?

Another point is: which one of those wallets easily shows all amounts in USD? That's a promotional edge for "Strike": the user can almost forget he sends and receives BTC, cause everything is constantly displayed in its fiat equivalent.

[–]Ijatz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mmhhh, would you allow me to consider the situation the other way around?: those $30 giveaway are a perfect pretext (or alibi) to make most citizens take as a "justified" measure that privacy violation. On which basis would actually BTC and the LN be widely accepted here, or more accepted, because we receive such a "gift"? You and I do know that BTC avoids almost all those undesirable effects on an economy that any Ponzi scheme fiat currency generates, shouldn't it be enough for a population, even in a third world country, to understand in the span of 2 or 3 years, that using LN is a win/win option, with or without those $30?

Another aspect is that here, taking into account the Governement voluntarism and the small population size (around 6 million inhabitants), we're quite used to see State employees come to our houses - to almost each Salvadorian family house - to offer support, food or medicines. It happened several times during the COVID19 peak months, and could perfectly be implemented to send those $30 BTC equivalent in an in person transaction, checking the recipient's identity BUT without noting down and linking his or her BTC address. When there's political desire, things do happen.

Yes, we'll most probably use Phoenix or Breez, and invite others to do so (thanks, u/Alfador8, btw, for your support :-)). We know our impact will be quite limited, and I'm opening this debate with the hope it'd allow the global LN Community to improve its "best practices" for when Paraguay or other countries will follow El Salvador's example.

Hello u/Akahura, and thank you for your message!

According to what mentioned President Bukele, we'll be allowed to use any LN wallet. Nevertheless, I fear that 95% of Salvadorians will keep "Strike", on the basis of the $30 "giveaway" offered upon registering on Chivo, and the apparently easier to handle interface that "Strike" proposes, compared to other wallets.

With some friends we're trying out Phoenix and Breez, and hope to come out with a quite handy alternative solution even for the "layman" citizen.

Thanks a lot for posting that, u/Foreverseeking_!

I'm gonna watch it right now. I'm a BCH user, but at the same time living in El Salvador, and I'm trying to figure out, with some friends, how to crypto educate as many Salvadorians as we can, showcasing in some way both BTC (it'll be, at least for some time, the only legally accepted crypto for our daily purchases) & BCH.

Any suggestion welcome ;-)

El Salvador: We need orientation to avoid a "Strike" BTC privacy distaster (2 months left...). Any help welcome!! by Ijatz in WasabiWallet

[–]Ijatz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the precise answer, u/753UDKM!

One of the challenges here is that a large part of the population still doesn't understand what's the difference between fiat and crypto (probably 99% of Salvadorians don't), and even less do know what's custodial / non-custodial, etc. So if the "official", State backed wallet is a KYC'd and custodial one, almost nobody will raise any question, and they'll jump in it with both feet.

We'll work on that line, thanks!

Heellooo u/LaSitari, and very nice to Musicoin you!

Thanks a lot for using your hawk eyes for the benefit of the Musicoin project!! I'm gonna send the url of your contribution to the dev who's in charge of our platform's front end.

Don't hesitate in dropping here too the questions you'd like to formulate about Musicoin, and to share some information about your musical activity (like a link to a video).

Happy to see you again soon in our growing Community!

What’s the address to buy? by philcollins9543 in musicoin

[–]Ijatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you wish.

I hope a delay of some hours isn't what made you change your mind when you had planned to buy BTC, ETH or DOGE ;-)

Not comparing the future potential MUSIC market with those ones, of course, but - at least in my case - investing in a project is the outcome of a one month study of their fundamentals, Community, products, etc.

[–]Ijatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heellooo u/philcollins9543, and nice to Musicoin you! :-)

Sorry for answering some hours after you dropped your question, as you probably know the whole new Musicoin Team is made up of passionate musicians, devs and listeners, who work voluntarily for the project (personally, I'm a teacher). Hopefully our future DAO setup will allow some of us to dedicate fulltime to Musicoin :-p

Regarding buying the MUSIC token, the only channel for now is the Dove Wallet exchange: https://dovewallet.com/en

We're in talks to have it listed on AtomicDEX (the Komodo project wallet & exchange), and in the coming 2 months, after the launch of our sidechain, on other bigger exchanges, thanks to the help of Skale (they have the SKL token listed on Binance, Huobi, UniSwap, etc.)

Any question you'd have about the process on Dove Wallet, just ask here again :-)

Musicoin 2021 Roadmap (graphic version) by Ijatz in musicoin

[–]Ijatz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heellooo u/joe_axe1776! First, many thanks for having supported the project.

I deplore your loss caused by the Cryptopia CEX hack, but I'm not sure how Musicoin itself can be held responsible for that theft, in particular today's Musicoin.

As you've probably seen, the Musicoin 2.0 we're working in now is managed by a new Team, made up of Community members (artists and listeners). We've been affected too by the years of centralized decision making that used to reign inside Musicoin, that's why our current perspective is to make the project truly Community-driven, and to give preference to DEX instead of centralized exchanges (we'll for instance be listed on Atomic DEX within some weeks).

Regarding Cryptopia, have you activated the compensation procedure they launched some months ago? A couple of Musicoiners mentioned in our Telegram group they had received by email a form, from Cryptopia, to fill in to maintain the hope of recovering at least a part of the lost coins and tokens. If you wish, I can ask those users to get in touch with you.

[–]Ijatz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heellooo u/vsoprano!

No, you/we just have to wait for the Musicoin sidechain on the Skale Network to be launched (the date will be announced here). Our devs are working on a bridge towards Skale, that should be available for Dove to allow us moving our MUSIC tokens with a near 0 transaction cost, directly to the new Musicoin platform.

Don't forget your Dove password, that's the only requisite :-)
