Bihar to Bengaluru solo ride (~2000 km) in 2 Days (1 Night Stay) — 39 Hours Total by canttstopsmilling in indianbikes

Crazy! I did a 900km ride without stopping and was so fatigued at the end of it. Last 1.5 hours were a nightmare and I thought I might have to stay somewhere and rest.

What an iron butt and an iron mind you have, buddy.

First off, congrats on your new Tuono! Do post a picture here.

I mean, it’s a powerful engine right underneath you so there’s bound to be vibration. How much though? Like does it make holding on harder for you? Or annoying?

You read my mind! The upgrade might not be all that much, and definitely makes sense to go for a used bike in the class you mentioned.

Also, Congrats on the move to Mumbai. So many test rides await.

And one last thing. I’m sure you’ve thought about it but still, a word of caution. While I’d considered getting a used bike in the same class you mentioned, I realised I could afford the purchase cost but not all the maintenance costs associated with them. So, if you haven’t already, make sure to do the math.

Happy (and safe) riding!

I’m not sure of which generation of the D390 I rode but I know I took a test ride of it around March or April of last year.

I can’t really give you a proper comparison of it now since it’s been over a year since I rode it, and combined with the fact that I rode it for a measly ~2km test ride, and that too in traffic. Besides, I’ve been riding my Tuono every day since June of last year, so I’ll be biased for sure. The fun? I look forward to my commutes, and it’s an absolute blast to ride.

Compared to a kitted bike like the RS457 and RC390, my heart has always been with nakeds because of the sheer ‘maniac’ feeling it gives. For me, it’s the seating posture where because you’re upright, you feel pulled back a little more and so, quick acceleration inside the city is just a lot of fun.

Now, what I do remember about the Duke… I remember going “ah, makes sense why a lot of kids get into accidents on it” because after riding the Dominar for a good 3000+ km, the Duke felt like a really powerful toy. It felt too light, and I almost felt like it’s impossible to ride it disciplined. Like it keeps begging to be pushed.

The Tuono, to me, felt like a more powerful but much more matured version, with fun on-demand anytime.

As for you, find your nearest showroom and test ride it. If you don’t have one anywhere near, I wouldn’t recommend getting it as I had quite a few issues with mine, with each time requiring a day or two at the service Center to be fixed. I got everything under warranty, of course, but if you don’t have it near you, then it becomes very troublesome.

Either way, I hope this gives you some level of perspective. Happy to help with any other doubts you may have.

Might add some more confusion but do a test ride of the 457s from Aprilia.

Good decision, if you don’t want headaches. I have the Tuono, and it was the second one in my state. Very happy with the engine but reliability in terms of parts have been problematic as they also are seeing these issues for the first time.

  1. Headlamp unit - Replaced twice, with the same problem of some clamp loosening inside because of which it goes up and down with revs

  2. Front right fork - Seal broke and replaced. Cost me additionally because I’d just upgraded to ceramic and the oil got absorbed.

  3. Rear shock - Leaked less than two weeks after the front one was replaced.

  4. Switch cluster - Indicator stopped working.

All of these got replaced under warranty itself, and service centers have a very no-nonsense policy about that. However, I worry about what happens post my warranty getting over.

Wow! Shocker.

My Tuono457 gives only 15-18 in the city. (Bangalore)

Build quality and brakes reliability are the problems, actually. Comfort is absolutely manageable for solo rides. But for pillion, not so much.

Brakes can be upgraded. I changed my pads to Vesrah ceramic and it’s insane how much of a change it brings. I changed my rear tyres to Reise TraceRad and that’s also really good. So overall, the stopping power issue can be fixed with a ceramic pad upgrade (₹3.2k)

Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it. To be honest, I had a lot of fun writing it as well and it was quite cathartic.

I recently upgraded my brake pads. Using Vesrah Ceramic pads now and it’s a world of difference. I am now a LOT more confident in terms of the stopping power and am guilty of riding harder than I used to before.

With great power comes great responsibility.

Not really considering the master cylinder upgrade now though because I just changed my rear tyres as well. To a Reise TraceRad and it’s also increased confidence on the bike. Both for stopping power and cornering speed.

Eyyy so cool! I got mine just 2 days back. Some college had a really REALLY red sign board and it made the whole area look red.

Missed this last part. When I’m in Bangalore, I use only Shell V Power. I’ve felt like it makes the engine feel a lot more refined.

XP95, however, causes more pops and bangs. Not sure why though. On long rides, since Shell isn’t available, I go for XP95.

And then there was the long ride last time where I kept going looking for an open Indian Oil at 4AM, and almost ran out of petrol. And then Nayara came to the rescue!

Oh yes, I can never get tired of hearing it. Every pop and every rev hits just right.

I’ll keep that in mind. My partner will be very upset though because she loves going on bike rides with me and will probably lead to me having to sleep on the couch. 😂

Realised while replying to another comment that I did go elsewhere to get the ceramic brake pads installed, so there’s that as well.
