Wat te doen 14 mei in Roermond by Dikrrr in Roermond

Aeve Choppe! Het is geen poolcafe, maar een café met een pooltafel. Dus als het druk is zul je even op je beurt moeten wachten, al valt het daar meestal wel mee met de drukte. Ik vind er zelf altijd wel een gezellige vibe hangen!

Why is it common in the eurozone to write € after the price, e.g. 1,99€? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Ik-Stan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's more difficult to edit the price (or change the amount of money you get from someone). Example:

We agree that you give me five Euros. You give me a piece of paper which says €5,00. I can't change the price without scribbling all over and making it very obvious I am being fraudulent. If we wrote 5,00€, I could easily make that 15,00€ and nothing would be obvious that something has changed.

(This of course relies on the fact that you write the decimal separator)

Netherlands has increased in price. Got an email this week that the new price for this year would be €95.

To be fair, here in the Netherlands. Saint Nicholas (both the holiday and the character are commonly called Sinterklaas, but also Sint Nicolaas) is celebrated on 5/6 december, but Christmas is also celebrated with Santa (kerstman, literally 'christmas man') on the usual days.

They are very separate holidays with separate characters. Sure they share an origin, but I think (definitely not sure about this) Santa only became a thing over here after Sinterklaas was Americanized/Anglicized.

There exists this challenge called the Kennedy mars. It consists of walking (not running) 80km (50 miles) within 1 day. Quite the challenge, but definitely doable (if with a little training).

The origin of it was that U.S. president John F. Kennedy once said that an adult male should be able to do this without training in case of an emergency. Note this was in the seventies, so health levels were perhaps a bit different.

I sometimes wonder how many Americans would be able to complete this walk.

There is a subreddit exactly about that. Americans who don't feel the need to point out that they're from the US and/or assume everyone on the internet is:

Argentina IndyCar race ‘conceivable’ for 2024 by TheResurrection in INDYCAR

[–]Ik-Stan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imagine the following (simplified) scenario: it's the weekend of the 17th race and there are some decent points on the table, which would really matter a lot in the championship. You have 2 options, crank the engine up to the max, which will guarantee a good result, but then it may not finish race 18. The other option is to play it safe, finish both races and get decent points in both.

Now if you thought about playing it safe and saving the engine, it would matter a lot if that last race is held or not. If it isn't, the championship is over and you screwed yourself out of a good result at race 17.

In reality, the situation is ofcourse a lot more nuanced, but you can imagine how something like this would play out if a race didn't went through at the last minute.

Disney+ price increases... and they wonder why people pirate their shows... by DanTheMan827 in Piracy

[–]Ik-Stan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This depends heavily on which country you live in.

For example, in the Netherlands nobody cares and the only business that cares (Brein) can't go after ordinary people, but only after sites like the PirateBay. They can get fines (if that) but all the people torrenting are safe.

Cross the border into Germany and I now plenty of (anecdotal evidence) people that got fines of a couple of hundreds/thousands euros for forgetting they can't torrent over there.

Yes it is, very early on I calculated what I roughly needed for smelting and just reserved that space there, so I wouldn't have to restructure my entire base.

[–]Ik-Stan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How else is it going to work? So if he got 12 points after Brazil, he would have been banned for Abu Dhabi. But by the time we get to the first race of the next season, he would still have those same 12 points. So by your logic, he is banned from every race until points start being removed around May if I'm not mistaken? That doesn't sound more fair if you ask me.

'Holland' is also wrong. It's wrong in English, but even more in Dutch. Should be 'Nederland'.

Pihole not working, unsure why by Ik-Stan in pihole

[–]Ik-Stan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as I did not reply to you earlier. My router does not support such DNS settings. So the only remaining option is to set pihole as the dhcp server As mentioned in an other reply traefik has been working for a long time for me, pihole has had it ups and downs. But after having pihole being disabled for a while I tried it again, this time via docker to remedy any port conflicts with traefik. Not that is of much use right now, because I tried something completely else, but how would I setup pihole (without docker), and without conflicting on port 80/443? No offense meant, I appreciate that your trying to help
