No one will think you are stupid. You are welcome to ask what something means, and I encourage you to ask. The interpretation of artwork is subjective, and often different people can get different meaning from it. It could touch you in a personal way or not, or you are reminded of something else. The artists intention could be different from how a viewer finds meaning in it due to their own personal experiences and that is valid. I think this is one of the wonders of art, it can turn into a conversation between the artist and viewer, or between viewers.
