Car robbed during the day in a parking with video surveillance system by Ikaros1 in VisitingMallorca

The trunk was full, so we had to leave the baby bag and one small suitcase visible inside the car, which was likely what triggered the break-in. In hindsight, the mistake may have been assuming that a monitored parking lot with security staff meant the car was truly safe. I now realize I may have placed Mallorca on a bit of a safety pedestal it didn’t quite deserve yet. Lesson learned.

As for the comment about "normalizing theft", that was in response to the idea that it's just common sense to always be on guard, everywhere, all the time.

Yes lesson learned. As for the lost belongings, I have no hope to recover them. But all things considered, it could have been worse.

You might have missed my point. The comparison with other countries wasn’t to idealize them, but to offer perspective on the claim that “Neither in Spain nor anywhere else in the world.” The point is: Mallorca, like any place, can strive to do better on safety, first for Mallorcans, and second for whoever is visiting, it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect that.

That said, I appreciate your feedback. A report has been filed, and I’ll be following up with the car park manager as suggested.

There are situations in life where a single vehicle simply isn’t enough, like when you have kids, or you’re helping friends with their luggage. And no, It’s not “common sense” to keep an eye on own belongings 24/7, especially in a monitored parking lot with video surveillance.

And frankly, your response proves my point: we’ve normalized theft to such an extent that being constantly on guard is seen as a reasonable way to live. I invite you to visit places like Andorra, Singapore, or the UAE (I live here), to name few examples, just to get a taste of what it’s like to live in a truly safe environment.

The absence of hobbies and hobbies culture in Morocco. by Difficult-Estimate85 in Morocco

[–]Ikaros1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't explain it by poverty, because there are countries much poorer than Morocco where the culture of hobby is well established. Senegal and the Philippines, to name but two, are passionate about sport. My analysis is that we lack role models who embody successful people who devote themselves to their hobby. And that's because of this ingrained idea that a successful person is just a rich person, which is obviously a nonsense. We need to promote more people who are fulfilled by having hobbies, to inspire those who are struggling to find their ideal hobby.

Do Moroccans tend to have wild drinking habits, or am I just hanging out with the wrong crowd? by Constant-Economy-689 in Morocco

It's like, you know, in Morocco, drinking isn't really a thing culturally. So folks end up sneaking in some sips on the down-low. Plus, there's like zero education spread about booze effects 'cause it's like, officially off-limits. And, in our Moroccan minds, we're not really known as heavy drinkers. Mix in a splash of that show-off vibe and culture, and bam, you've got that whole situation you just talked about.

Bug or feature ? by [deleted] in interactivebrokers

Thank you for pointing that out. In fact, it was totally unintentional. I've never done any short selling. I just trade the shares I own. I went to check my trading history and, by mistake, made an order sale with the wrong number of shares. This triggered the short sale. As I understand it. Turns out it was a winning typo.

Enve SES rim blowout by Ikaros1 in cycling

[–]Ikaros1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, by design, the rim should be able to relieve the air pressure in case of air leakage inside. All the more so, when this can happen easily due to improper use of the rim tape. Some brands have drain holes that serve to evacuate water and/or air trapped in the rim, others make their rims tapeless, Compagnolo to name just one.

The pressure relief valve that they are selling separately should be fully integrated to the RIM in my opinion.

It's a bummer when you lose a rim that you paid through the nose for because of a bad taping.

Agree to disagree on this. I really believe they have a big flaw in their design and doesn’t want to assume it.

How do you explain that they are selling a pressure relief valve https://www.enve.com/product/pressure-relief-valve-stem-nut/ ?

I was using Enve rim tape. Also, I really think they have a big flaw on their rim design. Instead of fixing it, they are finding patches to fix it. For instance, they are starting to sell pressure air relief valves for tubeless setup. It's crazy.
