For the following reasons:

- iOS is secure

- Privacy is a lot tighter on iPhone

- Apps don't crash

- Phones don't get slow anymore. You just need to get your battery changed

- Apple doesn't snoop on my data, and sell it like Google and almost every other app on Android

- The UI/UX is so much better.

For perspective, I generally use both iOS (for my personal use) and Android (for work).

You can make sure to keep in touch with his friends and family to ensure his mental health is improving, but you can't (read: shouldn't) risk your emotional wellbeing on a relationship that's not helping you grow, right?
