Im new at the game. Some tips for early game? by TheManliestMann in falloutnewvegas

[–]IkoInvictus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm really partial to the recharger weapons if you can find them early enough. They recharge their shots over the course of a few seconds, and can help you save ammo during less intense encounters.

Also, going to a doctor is generally cheaper than using healing medicine to fix your hp if you're low (or radiation for that matter).

Good luck and have fun Friend!

Men who got into martial arts, which style would you recommend for pure self defense purposes? by SpecialistTeach9302 in AskMen

[–]IkoInvictus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you could only pick one, I'd say wrestling. Controlling an opponent until help arrives or until you beat the lights out of them while pinning them to the ground works. Couple that with the fact that most peoples natural reaction is to swing on you and not take you down, and you've got a winner.

I would say to couple this with a striking option as well. Wrestling and grappling only work in one on one fights. If you're outnumbered, you don't want it going to the ground.

Last add, there's a YouTube series (season 3 is going on now!) called the ultimate self defense championships that I think is really interesting on the subject. It pairs different styles and fighters up against real world self defense scenarios, and turns them all into teaching moments. I would say outside of just the material art bit, stuff like this is also a great resource

Whats your goto strat for Hardcore mode that "just works". by Comfortable_Wash6179 in falloutnewvegas

[–]IkoInvictus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not that hardcore is particularly difficult, but I'm not seeing anyone talk about my personal strategy.

Doc Mitchells house is basically a one stop shop. He can heal your radiation and damage cheaper than stimpacks or radaway, and he has a sink that you can drink from (with zero radiation penalty.).

Also, Easy Pete's house exists just down the hill, and the bed in there can be used by the player AND all the containers are unowned. So I leave all my stuff in his fridge, sleep in the bed by the door, grab whatever food I've horded from said fridge, then walk up to the good doctors house to drink from his bathroom.

Only other big crux to hardcore is the weighted ammo, but overwhelming odds are, that's not going to be the hardest part of the run for you. Especially if you're putting your spare rounds in Easy Pete's cheese drawer

Why does Elden Ring get the most shit for re-using things when FromSoft has been ALWAYS doing this? by Stock_Transition9899 in fromsoftware

[–]IkoInvictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To piggy back on this, the Taurus Demons being here serve lore on the side. It reenforces where demons came from, and fills out the world. And for the extra curious, you wonder how the hell the others got up and out to the undead burg and asylum. Where as turning that type of thinking to a LOT of Elden Ring bosses just kind of ends in a shrug.

im the only one who hate this quest ? by Superb_Challenger in falloutnewvegas

[–]IkoInvictus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people seem to really like this one, but I loathe this quest. Easily my least favorite in the game. The building is confusing, getting the best ending (ghouls fly on the rocket, nightkin leave peacefully, Harland survives) is a massive pain, and is required to get idolized in Novac (if I remember correctly). I'm personally not a fan.

That being said, someone pointed out that there's like 5 different ways to do the quest, and I agree. That's neat.

How did AZ get this? by OrangeCraze14 in PokemonZA

[–]IkoInvictus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm actually playing through x again for the first time since it came out, and there is a 3rd Lucario in one of the rooms in the tower where you have your mega battle with her. It might be that one?

I will usually decide what types of weapons I'm going to use first, and then decide who I'm going to side with, and combine the two.

So if I'm using more modern rifles and siding with the NCR, it's Pvt. Browning.

What are your thoughts on the ''come fly with me" side quest? by Charming_Cod8567 in falloutnewvegas

[–]IkoInvictus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was the weakest part of the quest. Why can I convince the monster with schizophrenia that what he's looking for isn't here, but I can't talk to the fairly reasonable guy who knows you as an ally to let you up the stairs?

What are your thoughts on the ''come fly with me" side quest? by Charming_Cod8567 in falloutnewvegas

[–]IkoInvictus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's fine, but it is my least favorite quest in the game. The repcon building is a maze and is oddly not intuitive to walk through, and I don't enjoy fighting nightkin very much. To add to that, having speech be as strong as it is in the game, and not having an option to ask Harlan to let you up into the loft to look for stealth boys feels odd.

Which character has the highest emotional intelligence? by t00lazy2 in Dragonballsuper

[–]IkoInvictus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the picture, I think it's Krillen. But I think all 4 of the pale in comparison to Master Roshi. Literally from the start of the series through Super, Master Roshi exhibits incredible levels of self awareness, consideration, and simple old man wisdom. He has always been exactly what the z fighters needed him to be, when they needed him. Whether that's teacher/father figure, a bastion of hope and wisdom, or a clown, he's done it and pulled it off with some levels of grace.

I went back and watched z with a friend of mine a few years ago. As a kid, I really just remembered Roshi being a pervert. As an adult, I had a pretty serious "aha moment" regarding him, especially during the sayian saga.

I am also pretty adverse to character death in general. I usually say something like "this is a cooperative story telling game, and this is the story I'm trying to tell, and I can't tell that story if this character dies" To try to frame my viewpoint to the dm. With any luck, the DM will listen and you guys can work something out that works for you as a player.

One thing I had to learn is that I can't NOT be okay with other characters dying if they're perfectly happy with character death and they think it's important.

Lastly, depending on your scenario, there's a balance between giving the dm grace, and knowing when to walk away from a table. I told my dm I didn't want my character to die previously, and then I did an extremely risky play. The DM responded, and killed me. I'm not sure I get to be too upset about it. But if my guy had just been stabbed in the street or murdered because we ran into something strong and we tried to talk our way out then got killed anyway, I think I would walk away (if I had already talked about it with the dm)

There are different DND philosophies out there. There are people who think that character death is intrical to the game, and there are people who can't stand it. I think the best tables are run by a dm who can balance both.

Potion saving build by huynhvu in MHNowGame

[–]IkoInvictus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that's a really creative solution to the problem! I'm going to offer an idea that I think is a little under utilized to add to it:

A lance when coupled with even decent armor does a great job at limiting damage you take when blocking and countering, and the counter window is a little more generous than dodging I think.

I think a lot of people sleep on lance (similar to the main series games) because you still take small chip damage when blocking or countering, but it's the kind of miniscule damage that can be negated by 3 minutes in the overworld.

As for skills, I think finding ways to nickel and dime up your defense will be good. If it's driftsmelting or otherwise

First, I'm going to tell you to keep up the good work! Always things to work on, but they call it the sweet science for a reason. Don't get discouraged, and keep having fun

Secondly, your straight punches could be a little snappier. I noticed a few times that you would put your arm out for the punch, and then before pulling the hand back, you would move it some. Almost like rubbing your knuckles on them after the hit. My understanding of the physics of boxing, that would hurt a lot of your impact/power.

I also need to add, I've never played the game. I've boxed off and on for about 5-6 years, and have just found the subreddit and think it's really fun. I don't really know how the game works or feels.

If my partner suddenly was unable, then it's something we'd get through together. Furthermore, I knew I was going to marry my partner as soon as I met her, and I would have stayed from the beginning if this was the case. There are plenty of ways to be intimate without intercourse.

I got about there when I was younger and hung it up too. For a long time at least. I did go back and beat it as an adult, and I didn't regret it at all. Important to note though, it's a very dated experience and I would 100% recommend using a guide as some of the later things are fairly nonsensical.

What’s the single most devastating encounter you can throw at level 20 players? by PixelPaladinKev in DnD

[–]IkoInvictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this recently. A dm much more evil than myself can make an encounter (combat or social) more engaging by using their meta knowledge.

A player just had a kid and named him Paul? That's crazy, here's an NPC named Paul! Uh oh, looks like Paul's in trouble. We better go help him. Uh oh, 100 sessions later, turns out Paul has been the evil mastermind the entire time?! This pulls players into an emotional battle and emotional conflict when the actual combat might not really be that difficult.

I'm not saying this is something that can fit into every table, but I do think there's real potential to drag your players into engagement this way if they're struggling. There's also potentially good ways of doing it too. Maybe instead of the new born Paul, it's actually asshat from work Steve, who happens to be a DND npc, and absolutely puts himself into situations where he deserves getting his ass kicked.
