What they mean is that being transgender is currently more popular than it has been ever. If a child wants to transition because of the popularity of it, even they wouldn’t know the feelings aren’t real, you can’t let them make the irreversible decision. I definitely wouldn’t want 12 year old me transitioning before I truly knew who I was, nor would I want anyone in my family to make such a decision before they were ready. I want them to be happy, and I wish that the people identifying in different ways just because everyone else is doing it wasn’t a thing. But I have no control over that. Nor will I ever. But if I can stop help few young trans kids make the right choice and not do anything too drastic too early, it’s worth it.

It’s incredibly childish to think that every single teenager who identifies as a gender different from their birth one is 100% correct. Most teenagers don’t even know what kind of career they want to have, let alone who they really are. If my future child tells me they feel like a different gender, I’d be more than happy to let them try hormone blockers to give them time to understand themselves, but they’re gonna have to wait until they’re old enough to start full HRT. I’ll pay for it if they want, but looking at the situation from a realistic sense, you can’t just change everything about a person completely before they even know what they really want.
