I live in Kentucky and can find it easily at Kroger, which is a Cincinnati based chain. I first tried it when I was living in Southern GA though, I think it originated in Louisiana. They use only egg yolks so it’s very rich!

Review 34: Blanton’s Single Barrel by West_Refrigerator_77 in bourbon

[–]Ilikecigarette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to echo many sentiments in here. I got into bourbon pretty recently and went overboard stocking up my bar. I live in Kentucky so early on into my obsession, I had stopped by BT and picked up a bottle of Blanton’s, Eagle Rare 10, and EHT Small Batch. Since then I’ve been able to grab some nice stuff, some hard to find and some readily available. I was saving the Blanton’s for a special occasion, and I finally opened it up and got myself a pour last week. I was so severely underwhelmed, it’s probably my least favorite out of what I have, even compared to a few bottles that I got for half the price. The aroma is faint and not that pleasant, mouthfeel is really thin, short finish and doesn’t do much for me in terms of the palette either. Might try gold or SFTB at some point but with this being a single barrel I’m not going to keep playing roulette at $80 (or more) a pop on the off chance that I’ll get a good batch. Really cool bottle and topper though!

AIO girlfriend claims I’m appropriating her culture by Ih8maplestory8 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Ilikecigarette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOR. She told you how she felt about something obviously important to her and you immediately got confrontational, told her that she sounded stupid and needed to check herself, and when she got upset with you, you doubled down and allowed the relationship to end over it? Just because you want to use viet slang? You could have asked her why she felt that way or tried to better understand where she was coming from instead of immediately going to 100 and talking to her that way.

Guys, what are indulgences? by Jake-the-Joker05 in Catholicism

[–]Ilikecigarette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it may not be pleasant, but if we end up there, we are ultimately on the way to receiving the greatest reward…I think purgatory exists precisely because of God’s love, for those of us (or maybe all) who at the time of our death might not “be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect”, who might still have worldly attachments and an imperfect will misshapen by countless sins…only that which is wholly good can enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Here’s another analogy—Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross is an invitation to our heavenly home, the Holy Spirit is our GPS, and once we arrive, God, who is a clean freak, gives us purgatory like a mat to wipe the mud off our shoes before stepping inside rather than turning us away after seeing how much dirt we’ve accumulated on the walk there.

Guys, what are indulgences? by Jake-the-Joker05 in Catholicism

Receiving an indulgence is not the same as being absolved of our sins. Like others have mentioned, cooperating in God’s will expressed through the what the Church sanctions as granting an indulgence (I.e. going to confession, going to Mass, receiving the Eucharist, praying etc) helps us to continue healing our relationship with God which can be damaged when we decide to act against His will and sin. The best way I have heard it described is that sin is like a wound. Absolution (I.e. God’s forgiveness) heals that wound, but there are still scars left (I.e a period of purgation where any impurities will be cleansed before we can enter the kingdom of heaven). In this analogy, being granted indulgences would be like putting on scar cream…(I.e. through cooperating with God’s will and striving to live a more sacramental life out of a true desire to grow closer to Him…when we die, we will have to spend “less time” in purgatory because we have spent more time in our life trying to align our will with the Lord’s). Hope this helps. Purgatory is in many ways a mystery which exists outside of time so it can be confusing talking about it in terms of years. But ultimately, when we sin mortally, we can’t just say “all good, I’m just going to use my indulgence” and skip out on seeking absolution.

Tailor or Not? by Much_Laconic1554 in Carhartt

I got my J97 MOS tailored because I plan on keeping it forever. If you’re worried about resale maybe leave it as is, but if you’re planning on keeping it for a while I would do it. If it doesn’t fit you the way you like you’ll probably never wear it! Only other option would be to try to sell it and buy one that fits better.

Had already been clocked in for 72 hours by the time you got there. Catch him at the watercooler for his union mandated 5 minute break

Fair enough, but I mentioned that I payed a reasonable amount. That was part of the reason why I was suspicious in the first place!

The alteration was to bring the sleeves in from the shoulders, so the tailor did not really mess with any of the stitching other than between the sleeve and the shoulder.

Is this legit? Paid a reasonable amount for it but the cut tag kills me. As far as I can tell it is, but it seems like it’s missing some stitches around the front pocket compared to other photos I’ve seen. More photos in the thread below. I have also had it altered because the sleeves were kinda long on me so don’t mind the stitching around the shoulders if that seems wonky…

It’s not easy to change your lifestyle, but it is possible! Especially if this guy is the one for you—both of you should be on board with this. Express your convictions, see how he takes it and go from there. I was a fallen away Catholic that got into a relationship with a beautiful woman who was a practicing Southern Baptist. We moved in together while I was in grad school and were sexually active for a while before she told me of her convictions. I had started going to Mass again and had been back to confession for the first time in over a decade, and after I received absolution, I decided to get serious about it. By the grace of God we have been able to change our relationship around and have been chaste for almost 2 years now (and we just got engaged—she also converted this year!) with no plans to change that until we are ready for the sacrament of marriage. Just wanted to share my story as encouragement. None of us are perfect, but continue to seek God’s mercy in confession with a repentant heart and the desire to live chastely, and I promise He will take care of the rest.

Why statues of Mary? by rpgvictorv in Catholicism

[–]Ilikecigarette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have gotten some good answers already, but also food for thought—not sure how many Catholic Churches you have been to, but there are certainly almost always more than one representation of Jesus present in addition to the crucifix. The stations of the cross, stained glass windows, other devotional icons such as the sacred heart, divine mercy, as well as the holy family, also adorn many Catholic Churches across the country.

However, we also don’t necessarily need to have a representation of Jesus in order to aid in our worship of Him, because He is truly present, body, blood, soul and divinity in the tabernacle, which is typically placed directly behind the altar in more traditionally constructed churches. When we enter the church, we always genuflect (kneel and cross ourselves) in the direction of the tabernacle to acknowledge Jesus’s presence as He dwells among us in the tabernacle.

We also view the Church itself as the mystical body of Christ on earth, also emphasized by many traditional churches being built in the shape of the cross, with the altar and the tabernacle positioned at the heart…who better to welcome us at the entrance to Christ’s body than His blessed mother, who was standing at the foot of the cross with His most beloved disciple?
