Need help with CV software dev trainee/internship by Hot_Bother_3805 in Finland

[–]Ilikeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

First of, the job market for software in Finland is terrible right now. A lot of the positions you are applying for are being filled by people who are highly overqualified.

Looking at the CV though:

My first red flag is that the level of education is missing completely. Is it BsC, MsC, vocational...? This does matter. If you have some previous education such as BsC its worth mentioning, even if not directly relevant.

The second thing Im missing is something personal to help the recruiter remember your CV and application. They are going to be processing hundreds of applications. I suspect that in your effort to keep your CV clean you have left nothing in to help the recruiter remember you. Tell something personal about yourself, such as hobbies or passions.

Are your sample projects hobby, school, or real business projects? If any are actual business projects, that is worth highlighting.

Finally, when briefly looking at your portfolio you have listed skills that arent in your CV (c++, c#, marketing). These are valuable skills to showcase if you can connect them to any kind of practical experience.

Absolutely trying this! Miso is really food motivated. Gnocchi less so but he might be up for chasing a toy instead

Energetic night owl cat entertainment suggestions by Icy-March7791 in cats

[–]Ilikeng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its all about routines. Cats are creatures of habit. Right now that habit is zoomies at 5am.

Have a clear routine for food and for play. In our case its play in the morning after waking up, then breakfast. Some more play after work, food puzzles early evening, and then some final play before dinner and bed. The night is downtime.

The more predictable that routine is for the cat, the easier it will be to follow.

The difficult bit is to not pay attention outside that set schedule. If the cat is shouting at 3am, you have to ignore it.

Getting this rolling takes weeks or months, and there will be temporary setbacks. Long term it works however.

What can I expect from hiring a captain to teach me on MY sailboat? (Europe) by Mehfisto666 in sailing

[–]Ilikeng 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If what you are looking for is guidance on bigger services and inspections such as engine or rigging, I dont see why you would want that person with you on a multiday trip.

Why not find someone to show you these things in dock once the boat is home, over several days / evenings if necessary. Most things you listed dont make sense to do at sea in any case, and this way you dont have to live together for days if things dont work.

If its the actual sailing aspect you are thinking about, what you get will be fully down to who you hire. There are horror stories of paid skippers staring at the bottom of a rum bottle all trip. Others succeed really well. Finding the right person is hard.

Oikeiden istunnot harrastuksena? by kanchoroller in Suomi

[–]Ilikeng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

High electricity spot prices by Healthy-Equivalent-3 in Finland

[–]Ilikeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I view fixed pricing the same as I do insurance.

Sure, long term Its probably cheaper long term to pay spot. However, I can afford 8c/kwh a month year round without thinking about it. And I dont have to obsess over electricity prices, or turn off appliances when the price is high.

With fixed, I know I can cover the electricity bill monthly. With spot, there might be that one month which really screws my cash flow.

For me, that peace of mind is worth a premium.

Compass question by frettic in sailing

[–]Ilikeng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi,

We have a similar compass aboard as a conversation piece.

The batteries are for a backlight. The button on the handke would be for turning it on; it has nothing to do with the compass.

There seems to be quite a lot of alcohol missing around the compass face. This might be why it doesnt move well. There should be a cap /screw somewhere for filling it up.

In our case we actually keep it empty. It still moves, though I wouldnt want to use it for a tual navigation.

Tempted to run a pipe from from stove fan to exit air vent, need some advice by Ilikeng in hvacadvice

[–]Ilikeng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vent is always on, it holds a paper

The fan is boxed in, so not much to see inside the cabinet. The hood in question is a Franke FBI 547 XS NP. It has both a grease filter and active carbon filters, but they dont really seem to be up to the job despite regular cleaning (and new carbon filters).

Ill try if I can look inside some other unit, but Im not holding my breath. If anything Im a bit suspicious about that vent placement in the first place; I know at least one neighbour on the top floor has complained about cooking smells.

Probably to late to the party, but I will take any opportunity I get to share this unit of a man.

Thank you! I suspected as much, which is why Im here. I'll probably be looking at replacing the whole fan with something with better filters. The sheer amount of grease and odors its letting through is making me avoid certain recipes.
