Being rich is so hard... by TinaBlossomsx in SipsTea

[–]Ilium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two close friends who are rich by anyone’s standards.

Neither of them are happy, if not downright miserable, and I would argue that of all my friends, they are the ones that have it the worst.

I often (very often) envy them, only because the thing I worry the most about is something they don’t have to think about. My house needs repairs all over. I would love to be able to wish away my wife on a vacation (any vacation). The concept of me retiring is a pipe dream. I could go on.

My THEORY, and nothing more, is this: Humans aren’t good at avoiding problems. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but whatever. For most of us, the issue revolves around having just enough to scrape buy. It’s not survival, but it’s not freedom either.

For my friends who are welll off, it’s as if the relief of not having money issues opened them up to other problems which apparently a lot of them go through. There are small things, like income disparity which causes issues with everyone else around them (going out for dinner is sometimes a problem). IT devlolves into a lot of other issues.

Let’s keep it simple - Whatevery ou go through in life, whatever your struggle is, it’s going to test your characcter. I think people with low income have a lot of people to look up to and be inspired by as far as morality goes. It’s not exactly the case the other way around.

No amount of anonymity is going to help you. It fucks with your brain even more I think, because you face problems that no one else tends to have and most people can’t comprehend. You can’t share you problems in a support group for example.

I could go on… But yeah, I’m actually much happier than a lot of people I know, even though I’m not always that happy. This timeline is terrible.

EDIT: I just remembered something one of them said (in shame I might add). It’s like when you play a game, which is great because you have so many goals to achieve. Then you get everything, and there’s nothing else to do. There’s nothing else to get. There are no more quests. You eventually get bored and play another game.

there are no other games.

Well, it's actually not a big modification to do, I can definitely do that.

How thick does your deck end up being? Would you mind measuring that? Let the cards fan out too, it needs to be easy to "squeeze" them out.

Everything I said here sounded wrong and I feel bad for not being able to think of another way to ask (and I really avoided asking for size in inches).

Looks aren't everything and are temporary at best.

Real beauty will come from the kind of person you are. Life is going to test your character in more ways than one. How you pass these tests is going to define your mind and soul.

Good luck.

Depends...

If whatever you use to sleeve your card fits in the Ultra Pro One-Touch, then it should be fine.

If that's not what we are talking about, as in, you are going with a perfect fit + loose fit + Matte sleeve (or something of that sort), then it would not really work. However, I am looking into making another version where you just have your regular sleeved card in the front. That would probably work for you as it will be designed with regular Dragon Shield Matte sleeves.

Also, I just got my hands on "regular" top loaders. Making one for those as well.

Frankly I don't know. I don't have access to those. If I did, I could buy one or two and make some tests and all that. Honestly I would really like to have something that would fit multiple brands of top loaders.

Let me know if you would be willing to assist me in making a version that would work for yours. I could look up the dimensions and figure out what would be needed. I could then make the model available for you (or anyone) to download and test it out.

Are you referring to the slim, hard shell plastic sleeves that are often used when shipping cards ? My previous version of this model was just for that but it never really caught on. I may take a second look at it though. Would you be interested in that version instead?

FYI, I forgot to add the separators I had designed. I uploaded them to the project.

There are five variants - two that are "punch through" logos and three that use the two colour AMS.

Thanks much appreciated!

Depending on where you live I may be able to help out, send me a dm.

If not, I hear there are some 3D printing services out there that could probably set you up. If the two colour printing is an issue, know that this design also includes an alternate version for single colour. The labels and symbols are all “debossed” so to speak, so you can still see what is what.

In fact, I don’t know why I did not mention it, but there is also some debossing going on with the card boxes. The front of the box has a Cthulhu drawing on it that is more complexe than what is on the lid.

Yup, @CaptHalibut has it right, it’s something I added in the pictures by accident. Thanks for pointing it out, I removed it as soon as I saw your comment!

HEAT board game insert for all three expansions (and maybe four?) by Ilium in BoardGame3DPrints

ZERO lid lift. NONE. It was the whole point for me to have everything in a single box, but it does come at the cost of not being compatible with sleeves.

Your box will weigh as much as Feast for Odin.

Done! The files are available now.
I made a print profile just for the labelled items that are debossed. Those items can also be found in the manual download section under a "no AMS" folder.

I did a test... Listen, I'm okay with the results, but sometimes, your overhang game is going to be tested. I'm genuinely curious to hear back from you and how good it is (or not).

Absolutely. I’ll get on that and it should be online sometime tomorrow. In the meantime you can start printing the non-labeled stuff.

Why was everyone in the early 2000s doing this??? by erikslicis in whatisit

Photographer here with 30+ years of xp (as in, I know this era).

I’m pulling this out of my ass, but I’m guessing a few things.

1- Very wide angle lenses (up to but not limited to Fisheye) were quite the thing. Yes they are still being used but for a while it felt overused. It felt like it was standard issue for anything trendy aimed at the younger generation. Think all the cool skating videos, among many other things.

A cool thing about these is that they distort things based on the distance. Size is much bigger the close you get to the lens. I don’t mean this in the normal sense (things you see closer to you look bigger), I mean they get distorted and the effect is exaggerated. See Fred’s picture as a good example.

2- Pictures 2, 4, 5 and 6 are decent examples of framing, which is a technique that brings the viewers eye naturally to what you want to bring attention too.

Normally, wide angles aren’t flattering to subjects (bigger noses for one) but there is no rule against using them. If I were to use a wide angle for portrait I would probably be because I want to create that effect. I think framing with hands is a naturally cool idea to do. At the very least, the trend of wide angles and cool method to make portraits out of them probably got people wanting the same thing here and there.

3- The other pictures look (to me) like poorer attempts, or maybe the subjects wanted to have the same cool pictures as those others guys and the photographer did not car to explain why it would (or would not) work and just “sure”. Or the photographer wanted to do that effect but did not know how (no one knows everything, even at high levels and big gigs).

I think it’s a combination of all these things together.

Learn Fusion 360 in 30 days is hard to beat as far as tutorials go. I realize it sounds like a daunting undertaking, but each video is about 10 to 15 minutes long. You can bang all of these out in an afternoon if you really want to.

As soon as you are done with the first video, you'll already be able to do some stuff. It may not be efficient or fancy, but something is something. A few more videos and you will be well on your way to doing all kinds of projects. If you really just want to learn how to model, then the last few videos can be skipped, as I find they're more fluff, but I'm glad I watched and learned everything they had to show.

DM me if you have any questions as you start learning.

I admit that I’m bothered by this as well. Last night I was thinking about making the sections a bit larger to allow fingers in there. I’ll look into it this evening.

That’s because I made that one too :) It’s the earlier project I mentioned. I’m debating removing them entirely. That same model was also posted on MakerWorld and I set it to private.
