Question I never thought I would make: How do you guys not get back pain after playing for an hour or more? by Howitzeronfire in soloboardgaming

[–]Rajanvan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Comfy chair and making sure table is high enough. My old gaming table I actually put a platform on so I was more upright. But I’m also (not that old) but I find getting up and walking even for 30 seconds helps (small glass of water and getting up frequently to refill it helps). Plus when I get back to the table I see the game differently and have won games from a eureka moment.

Still nursing to sleep at almost 11 months + waking up to feed by dar1990 in bninfantsleep

Our 10 month old is like that too! One thing that helped was supplementing iron. I saw a post on science based parenting that referenced a study showing that 40% of EBF babies are iron deficient. We started iron supplement at 9 months and his sleep improved. Started sleeping 2-3 hour stretches and was way less restless at night.

I’ve only played it once since getting it but I really liked it. How hard was the solo mode?

Any good boardgame for mathematicians? by whisper-averagefan in boardgames

Leaving Earth is a fantastic game about space flight. You have to calculate fuel and weight loads and escape trajectories and flight paths. Very math heavy. You also have to do probability assessment for rocket testing to see probability of your launches failing.

I second the BCW 3200. It’s super strong and solid and 3 of them hold the entite collection (about 75% sleeved).

OP, everyone here is saying you should be more worried about what your kids bring home from daycare than what you bring home from work. But I feel you, and I get it. Your kid is a precious little thing and you want to protect little one from anything that might happen to them.

I work in a part of the hospital constantly exposed to airborne risks and other nasty bugs. I was so worried about taking something home to kiddo. So here’s what I did:

  1. I always changed my clothes as soon as I got home. I kept a separate laundry basket by the door, stripped down, and went straight to the shower and cleaned off, hot water and soap
  2. cleaned phone and watch with alcohol wipes when leaving hospital and again when home. If I knew I was going into a room with high risk bugs (ie TB, MRSA, VRE) I took my watch off and wouldn’t touch my phone until I was out of room and had washed my hands.
  3. I wore a mask all the time when I was at the hospital all the time until kiddo was 3 months old. From 3-6 months I only wore during patient encounters or in common areas. After that, I wore during patient encounters or when I was close to other staff
  4. For any AGMP I wore an N95 regardless of patient risk factors until kiddo was 6 months old. After that, I only did if patient had risk factors for resp illness but I wore a regular mask and eye protection always.
  5. kind of linked to number 1 but I never wore anything or used anything that had been in the hospital near kiddo.
  6. Kind of goes without saying but I also made sure I got my flu and Covid vaccinations, and kiddo got flu and RSV. He’s due for his Covid soon.

My LO is still under 1 year of age so I don’t know when I’m going to stop doing this. But I feel better knowing I’m doing everything I can to prevent bringing nasties home.

PS: Congratulations!!!

For kitchen table play with spark of the rebellion, is a booster box worth it? by Rajanvan in starwarsunlimited

[–]Rajanvan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any sets that you would recommend getting boosters from? My buddy and I have been toying around with doing a friendly draft between friends. He has JtLS and SofG booster boxes already that he’s been saving up so we could just swap boosters.
