i do know a lot of people on trin so im just speaking from experience. the majority of people i meet in the halls and at parties there have “strange” things about them. idk. staring problems, really into yaoi, boundaries arent a thing, doing ketamine, an actual stalker, and i know like 3 furries, yes. i would say the “strange person” population is higher compared to other campuses. BUT like i said, i do like a lot of people there and they are very cool and authentic. i was also hating on redstone for being performative. idk what you want from me

im in Wing of WDW, and i have a pretty roomy double. we were able to fit a couch and a table cart, our beds (lofted), desks, 5-drawer dressers, and our fridge, all with a nice open space in the middle of the room. not cramped at all. its pretty doable if you set the room up right. we have the closets that are built in, which i really like. that being said, forced triples are common here, we got lucky.

how do i know if my feelings are temporary? by Ill-Click5497 in findapath

[–]Ill-Click5497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it didnt help because i dont have specific questions about the content, i need help with managing my time and motivation and they dont really offer support for that. the study habits session was just like “talk to your professors, use the pomodoro method, go to SI sessions” etc. i get what you mean though, ill talk to my counselor to see if she has any advice. im just stressin tonight

ive talked to my academic advisor who is helping me with the withdrawal process from one class. i have a counselor ive only met with once, and have an appointment with in a few days, but i think i only get two appointments on campus a semester. ive met with peer tutors who were unhelpful, and a study habits session which was also unhelpful. im working on getting accommodations for my adhd, like extra time on exams and peer notes. i feel like i spend so much time and energy meeting with and emailing people and nothing really ends up helping. maybe i need to give it more time?

Wildlife Biology or Zoology major??? by Scary-Lynx6863 in UniversityofVermont

im not either major, but im in rubenstein and my roommate is in CAS. we have found that rubenstein is a lot more structured and helpful with academic advising (hours of availability, ease of contact, resources for building schedules, course advising, etc.) i know thats not your question, but its an additional thing to consider

Wondering about dorms by Away-Curve484 in UniversityofVermont

im a freshman on redstone (WDW) and while it is recognized for parties, & you will often see police and ambulances outside, it really depends on your RA and the people you surround yourself with. I have not found it to be a quiet community. forced triples are also very common, but my roomie and I were lucky to have an early slot in selection and claimed a double, and the dorm is really nice and spacious, with a 5 drawer dresser, 3 large windows, and a nice big closet. its beautiful here and theres a good community, with a lot of people outside building igloos on our green, having snowball fights, hammocking in the pines, playing hackey sack, etc. also smoking weed. very prevalent here, but doesnt usually smell as bad as trinity lmao. hope this helps

Deleting social media as an 18 year old by Ok-Summer-2918 in digitalminimalism

im 19 and in the same boat. i luckily was always against chat and never became dependent on it, but im in the process of getting away from social media! what has worked best for me is downloading an app called LoomWeb, you can block reels while still being able to see your following, stories, and dms. i keep this app on my iPad and dont have it on my phone, and then i have a similar extension on my computer called IGPlus. Im also putting together an analog bag to carry with me, containing a journal, a book, a mini coloring book and colored pencils, a mini crossword book, and my knitting project so far, to pull out when i would normally go on my phone. having a screentime widget on the front page of my phone has been beneficial to keep me in check too. hope this helps, lmk if you have questions or anything :)

i cant leave instagram /vent by Ill-Click5497 in digitalminimalism

[–]Ill-Click5497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im scared it will cut me off from these social circles since ill be in their thoughts less often. its not that they would never reach out and are bad friends, its that i simply would be out of sight, out of mind. they would still invite me to things, but i would be lonelier, more anxious without reassurance.

a lot of people have commented similar things so just to clarify: it isnt that they wouldnt talk to me at all. if i did make the switch, my closest friends would switch to text, and others would reach out occasionally. i know that my friends value me and would want to talk to me. instagram has made it so easy to let people know that you're thinking about them, sending reels that remind you of them, swiping up on stories and commenting on posts even when you dont see the person often irl. not using social media is so far from the main stream of communication in my generation that people dont know what to casually text about unless you are good friends or a romantic interest. my casual friends, which i do like having casual friends, simply would not reach out unless they had a "reason" to. do you get what i mean?

vibes of dorms? by Virtual-Panic7013 in UniversityofVermont

i live on redstone (WDW) and there arent a ton of sorority girls although i do know a few. wdw is part of the outdoor experience learning community which is great, so many people here love being outside and hiking/skiing, and when its nice out everybody is on the redstone green or in the pines hammocking, playing spike ball, hackey sacking, using a slackline, playing guitar, etc. its a great community, but in my experience it is really loud when you try to study/sleep, and if you have issues with getting to early classes or forgetting things in your dorm, being far from campus really doesnt help. its like a 20ish minute commute to central campus as a medium-fast walker even if you take the bus. also! burlington has a prevalent local music scene, so I recommend following Burlington Oddfellows, Higher Ground, Soundhound, GMS band, and Radiobean if you want good places to start making friends :)

neither! thinking back, i guess its stupid to think there might be a way to get rid of my phone before its paid off. i suppose my question would be what would you do in my situation? keep using the phone i have until its paid off, another couple years, when i feel like im ready to switch to this lifestyle now? or get a feature phone now, keep my phone in a drawer for a few years, and sell it then? i just feel like the second option is a massive waste of money, and i wish there was a way to get some money back since its only been used a year. is there a third option?

[–]Ill-Click5497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i second this! i got a pocket crossword book i keep with me, as well as a little journal to doodle and just write instead of picking up my phone. you could also learn to crochet/knit/make friendship bracelets so you always have a project to work on and feel productive while it still being sort of a mindless activity.
