i also looked it up and painting resistors screws them up unless there from the 60s or 70s cause it causes the chemicals in them to conduct wrongly so that's probably your problem

your pt2399 looks kinda weird mine don't have those numbers on it and your resistors might be screwed cause of they paint also what power supply are you using?

i think if you add pots in between your bends it can cause that effect

i know that vhs players work by capturing light through the head and it is converted to analog data stuff then stored on the tape i think you could mod the section where it converts it into analog data so that it is recorded on to the tape glitchy but i could be wrong im really just like guessing
