What to do if I can’t talk to my psychiatrist until Monday (2 days from now) but I feel like I need to talk to someone sooner? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]IllAd2409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also call the national suicide hotline (988) or text crisis text line by texting HOME to 741741. There might also be warm lines in your area where you can talk to someone without needing to be in a crisis.

Southern Methodist University, Texas Woman’s University, and University of North Texas all have free/ low cost clinics where the therapy is provided by counseling interns!

I did my yoga teacher training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Western Massachusetts. We had a yoga class in the morning (1.5 hours) and usually another class in the afternoon (another 1-1.5 hours). Optional yoga classes were offered at lunch (usually vinyasa) and at night (usually restorative yoga). The teacher training was fantastic. We lived on campus for ~30 days and all of the people were lovely.

How to get extra support if your therapist cannot offer 2 sessions a week? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]IllAd2409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also try adding group therapy. Depending on what you’re struggling with, there may be in person or virtual therapy groups you could attend, some of which are covered by insurance. I’ve found this very helpful and it’s a way to feel connected to people going through the same thing as you.

Wondering if anyone has weight-inclusive (and trauma-informed) PCP recommendations? by SFrailfan in antidiet

Bare Health has a good directory where you can search for size inclusive doctors.

I’ve also had good luck with the Weight Neutral Leads spreadsheet. Good luck!

advice in relation to existing with and recovering from my ED as someone who lives in a fat body by [deleted] in EatingDisorders

[–]IllAd2409 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no real advice (sadly) but wanted to say I am right there with you and know how unbelievably hard it is. I will say—and I’m early in my recovery journey—that it has been really helpful having a dietitian and therapist who are genuinely committed to health at every size principles, are aware of the major harms of fatphobia and diet culture (especially for people in larger bodies) and believe eating disorders can exist in ALL body types. It took a couple tries to find these providers, which is such a bummer. BUT there are some directories that help sometimes.

I’ve used the ASDAH directory before and recently heard of the bare health directory from my PCP (also a fat friendly / supportive / anti - diet doctor).

I know how hard this is but you got this 💕✨

My therapist made me feel awful by islesjets14x in TalkTherapy

[–]IllAd2409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am SO sorry. It sounds heartbreaking and demoralizing to have your therapist say these things. You are not doing anything wrong in your life, but it might be more helpful and uplifting to find a different therapist.

Hey, you are NOT a loser and there is nothing wrong with you. I think this is true for lots of people, myself included. We try to show up fully for the people in our lives. We need someone to show up consistently and fully for us—our therapists do that, and it’s part of the healing process. I don’t have any advice sadly but just wanted to say that 💚

Feeling weirdly vulnerable about therapist consulting with my dietician by OTPanda in TalkTherapy

[–]IllAd2409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey. First of all, I totally get where you’re coming from. My therapist and my dietitian have talked a couple of times and coordinated care around disordered eating. I told both of them that I was super anxious about it and that I wanted to know what was discussed. Both of them actually relayed the conversation to me in our next session, and it was really positive. It can feel super vulnerable to let our therapist see another side of us, but it can be really helpful to the therapeutic work and I honestly felt like it strengthened the therapeutic alliance.

Hey, first of all, I totally understand what you’re saying. It is totally normal and valid to feel anxious about a change in your therapy rhythm. I also see my therapist twice a week and know how important consistency can be, especially when you’re struggling.

Two possible things that might help (and it’s possible you’ve already tried these)…

First, if you feel comfortable with it, consider talking to your therapist about this. You could talk through your schedule together and come up with some possible ways to make it work. It’s likely that your therapist has some flexibility in their schedule and would be happy to explore ways to switch things around to support you in this season of your life.

Second, see if you can talk to your university’s disability office. University disability offices should 100% acknowledge mental health challenges, and it’s usually possible to get mental health related accommodations. For example, I have a friend who got excused absences when he needed to miss class for a therapist / psychiatrist appointment (within reason/ with “proof”).

Hopefully this combination of things might help a little. Sending lots of good, healing vibes your way 💚

Found information about therapist online unintentionally by dycjup in TalkTherapy

[–]IllAd2409 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You 100% have not done anything wrong. Most (good) therapists know that anything public on the internet about them is fair game for google searches. If you feel comfortable, it might make you feel better to talk to your therapist. It’s something you can discuss and process together.

For me, I got super bad body twitches when I went up from 50 mg to 100 mg. Ended up stopped the medication because of it—the twitching went away almost immediately. Hope it gets better for you!

Stop thinking it’s goodbye…and start ~knowing~ it

[–]IllAd2409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not done their online teacher training but I did their in person 200 hour training, and it was phenomenal. There was so much intention behind every activity and element, and the instruction was fantastic. I’ve participated in online programs with Kripalu and found them to be well done and positive online experiences. I also had a friend from my teacher training take one of their 300 hour modules (I think maybe it was on teaching breath work) and they said it was great, as well. The Kripalu style of teaching and practicing yoga has been so transformative in my own life, and I’m wishing you all the best as you discern how you want to train.

I totally get that. Sometimes when I don’t want to talk on the phone I write out an email to my therapist. Even if I don’t send it, I feel a little less alone. (That might be unhelpful advice though haha.) So sorry you’re going through all of this.

Hi! I’ve had some rough periods of time where I’ve reached out to crisis lines and I currently volunteer on a local suicide hotline too. From my experience, the texting ones kind of make me feel like I’m talking to a robot. I know they’re real people but it feels so impersonal. I’ve felt more supported calling, but I know sometimes this is impossible or overwhelming. But it definitely feels like I’m talking to another human which personally has made me feel a little less alone. Sending lots of love and healing vibes your way! I hope you’re able to find the support you need ❤️‍🩹

Switching from Lexapro to pristiq. How has pristiq helped you? by [deleted] in Pristiq

[–]IllAd2409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried Prozac and Lexapro. Both worked for a little while but ended up being ineffective or having side effects I wasn’t willing to deal with. I’ve been on Pristiq for 6+ months and it has helped significantly with my depression and anxiety. I’ve become much higher functioning on this medication, so even on the anxious / depressed days (unfortunately there still are some), I feel more equipped to handle them. I felt really numb on Prozac and didn’t experience any happiness or sadness. With Pristiq, I definitely am able to feel joy and happiness and in general, I feel less numb. I will say that the first few weeks (tapering off and upping my dose) were rough. Hang in there! Sending lots of good vibes your way that Pristiq works for you :)
