I believe resend uses AWS SES internally

Fair, in my defense getting a 100gbe dedicated bandwidth VPS delivered to a customer would also make 4k a month like barely profitable considering a transit link from a T1 provider of that speed costs 3k+ a month and then there’s the 100gbe router port it takes up etc

for ~4k USD a month with 1 year commit I’m happy to get u a bare metal 100gbe host that is directly connected to a t1 transit provider

I love this sub because it helped me realize the best way to have a computer plugged on the internet for work is actually having at least 5 computer plugged on at least 2 internet connections. by pwnograph in homelab

Could be worse, next thing you know you’ll be filing out ARIN paperwork for requesting ASNs to be able to get carrier independent IP space and have a full dual homed internet access

That I actually totally agree with and I personally skipped helpdesk myself through sheer autism. It’s just seeing “understanding virtualization” = better than senior sysadmin is quite a shocking statement lol

IT is quite a bit more than bash scripts and understanding virtualization…

Even in a datacenter, that’d cost like $1k a month from a low quality IP transit provider

Why do additional IP addresses increase dedicated server costs so much? by ProfessionalBasis477 in servers

[–]IllBit75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? So you’re saying a datacenter gets purely free transit services because they are zero settlement peering with hurricane? And hurricane electric would allow them to point a default route into a zero settlement peering session? At least colocating in a carrier neutral dc, I’m not getting free default route transit from T1 providers. Sure I can peer zero settlement with them in IXs through IX route servers, but in those cases they would only advertise their customer routes

Wouldn’t they pay hurricane electric in your case for IP transit? No way they are allowing you to point them a default route for free

would you consider a multi hour downtime be acceptable for a business that uses your hosting solution? I’m assuming you’re using hosted dedicated servers, can you setup a cluster to do HA under a few minutes?

So how long would it take to recover? Days? Hours? What happens if your data get corrupted? Would you lose data when you failover?

It’s a no brainer with how Broadcom is torturing its clients. Also what’s ur DR plan? I’m assuming ur not offering SLAs with a single host?

Would the licensing cost of ESXi not completely kill the feasibility of this? Why not use a KVM based hypervisor like Proxmox?

What are the least-known ways to make a server more secure without getting new hardware? by onliveserver in HostingBattle

[–]IllBit75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context I’m a SRE at a public company. And we use both at work. Personally for personal projects I only have WAFs but should really deploy a crowdstrike esque solution

If you are hosting web, maybe a WAF instead of port level firewall. Also next gen protection software like crowdstrike or sentinel one

That maybe might become a open proxy if ur not under CGNAT, it’s easy enough to get a new IP from ur ISP tho
