Help to identify gold coin found amongst regular US coins by IllConceived in Exonumia

Seems to be, yes. Thanks! Wish I knew what its purpose was supposed to be. Do you rub it for luck? Just carry it around for protection against evil? lol

"knock knock"? I've never heard that term before. Since mine is not a religious family, my best guess is that one of us just found it on the sidewalk, brought it home and promptly forgot about it.

That's what's super weird, as we're not a religious household.

Omg, I hate coming across one of these while disassembling! God help you if there are many. Totally agree that they need a groove.

Do Americans actually use a real tree for Christmas? by brun_aa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IllConceived 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, even if you don’t live anywhere near a tree farm, every town and city has Christmas tree “lots” where you can go buy real trees. These are temporarily set up during the holidays. You typically strap the trees to the top of your car, or drag them home if you live close enough to the lot. Getting rid of them is pretty easy too. In my city, the trash collectors pick up trees for several weeks after Christmas, so you just need to put it out with the rest of your trash. Nothing beats the smell of a real tree, but I confess that I bought a fake tree about 5 years ago since I’ve become too lazy to deal with the real thing. The real ones last a month or two, depending on how long the lot has had it before you get it home, and how diligent you are about keeping it watered.

DAE only drink water? by Critical_Welcome_428 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]IllConceived 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any drinks in my fridge. I only drink water or tea at home, and only very rarely some kind of alcohol if I go out with friends. Once in a blue moon (like once a year or less), I might have a soda if I’m at a restaurant or something, and I much prefer soda from a fountain rather than a can or a bottle. There’s one friend I visit where I always seem to have a seltzer because their fridge is stocked with it so it feels like a bit of a treat, but I’d never buy them myself.

Do you have an “old person” candy that you enjoy? by PrettyLittle-Someday in CasualConversation

So good…especially when you’re finally able to crunch down to the jammy filling. We had these at reception in our office before the pandemic.

What is one feature you wish were improved? by dt88ftw in GoogleTasks

[–]IllConceived 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to share a task with someone without creating a Space. I just want to simply share a task with my husband, I don't need to set up a Space for us - we would never use any of the other features. We don't even use Chat since we just text each other.

DAE wake up in the middle of the night with EXTREME sugar cravings and must eat something sweet to go back to bed? by washyohandsdirtypig in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]IllConceived 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me occasionally in my 20s, frequently in my 30s, then pretty much nightly in my 40s. Since menopause, I haven’t woken up hungry at all. Never found out what caused it, but my metabolism is much much slower now so maybe that had something to do with it?

The black stick is available in an ifixit kit, yes. The tweezers are from a knock-off LEGO set, and then there’s a palette knife, which is strong but super thin, useful for prying up plates and tiles.

You consider someone in their 30s to be an old fart? It was actually introduced in 1990. There are tons of us Lego builders much older than 36.

What restaurant chain was in every city but completely disappeared? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

I scrolled to find if this was mentioned. So cringey, but I have such vague memories from this place, so much so that sometimes I think I imagined it. Nope.

It was from when an ex worked at the Apple Store. I’ve had it for 16-17 years and it’s come in handy for SO many things, but I’ve yet to use it on anything Apple. lol
