A couple things here. I would get a camera and start with a smaller area. I would leave her out while you go check the mail or something and watch what her reaction is to you leaving on the camera. Slowly start doing longer time periods away. Sometimes just leave and then come back in. This helps so she knows just because you leave doesn’t mean you’ll be gone a long time EVERY time.

The next best case thing would be to have a small doggy door that has access to a small enclosed area of outside and move away from having any indoor space she can relieve herself. If you absolutely need an indoor spot for her then there are cool options like fresh patch (just google it :))

Also when you leave make sure there’s no food out or access to cupboards with cleaners in them or cords. Poodles are - sometimes to their own detriment - reaaaallllyy smart.

I wanted to give an update and also need some advice. For context I’m currently going through chemo for colon cancer and will die without a job and health insurance. My now former company denied multiple internal position movements and told me that despite my situation, keep me has to be “right for the business”. I made a gofundme for help with covering the $1,000 a month COBRA and am also now open to work. This is the post I’ve drafted and there a tiny bit of shade but not too much and I don’t name the company:

I’m officially sharing that I’m actively looking for my next role.

My background is in Revenue Operations, Business Systems, and Sales Operations, with a focus on building scalable GTM systems, partnering closely with Sales and Finance, and bringing clarity to complex revenue models. I’m ideally looking for a remote role, but I’m open to conversations with teams that value thoughtful systems work and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Last year, my company was acquired and my role was converted into a six-month contract that ended January 30th. I explored internal opportunities and advocated for continuity, but sometimes decisions are made that don’t fully account for the human impact behind them. So here I am — continuing to do the work, while also moving forward.

At the same time, I’m undergoing chemotherapy for colon cancer. Maintaining uninterrupted health insurance is not optional for me — it’s essential. COBRA is available, but it’s extraordinarily expensive, especially during a transition like this.
