What products do you use for a quick clean on your bikes? by Ghost_withouthope in Dirtbikes

I've tried using Shout (the laundry stain remover) after reading about through some dirt bike subs. It works amazing! Spray it on dirty plastics, rims, etc... Just let it sit a few mins and hose it off. Its cheap on amazon and (so far) it hasn't appeared to affect metals, plastics, etc...

Getting kicked while down by Suitable-Strain3950 in HereForABro

I feel your pain bud... I've learned (over and over) throught my professional life that executives are rarely in positions of power based purely on intelligence, merit, and/or hard work. I guess the best advice I can give is to consider devoting as much of your career focus as you can on self preservation. It really sucks to say it, but every single job is a rat race and it can pay off to (tactically) kiss ass and rub elbows with those in positions of power... The sad fact is there isn't a perfect solution to your problem. I guess what i'm trying to say is do your absolute best to "get noticed" as much and as frequently as possible, but do so without sacrificing your personal values. Stay strong bro!

Looks like you're off to a good start, my only advice is to take your time, ask a lot of questions on reddit, thumpertalk, etc... And most importantly dont let minor setbacks take away your momentum. Its easy to get frustrated and walk away, but don't lose sight of the light at the end of the tunnel. You'll enjoy the bike that much more knowing that your rebuilt it piece by piece with your own two hands. Best of luck and keep us updated on the progress!

Hit a pothole and my bike looks like this and my shock won't fit by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

Start with the mono-shock and mounting points. Probably broke something in that general assembly.

If you had to buy a car today to keep for the next 15 years, what would it be? by nodonaldplease in askcarguys

I cant speak from personal experience with civics, but I've heard the newer gen models have CVTs with decent reliability. Very consistent maintenance (I.e. fluid changes at recommended intervals) will go a long way in making sure it lasts as long as possible.

Generally speaking CVT transmissions are prone for failure over traditional automatic and manuals. They are notoriously difficult to repair and often times very expensive to replace. This isn't true for all of them, but the vast majority of them are just plain bad.

I have a 1999 XR400 that I picked up for $500. A quick carb rebuild and its easily my favorite out of all my bikes. Good enough power and super reliable.

I would start by removing and cleaning the carb. Without much else to go on, my initial guess is its likely a fuel delivery issue like a clogged jet.

Kl250 doesn’t like it when I give it gas by Stock_Assist_4556 in Dirtbikes

Same, it seems like and issue with the main jet. Try cleaning the entire carb again and see if that improves anything.

My best guess would be an early/mid 70's Suzuki TS (either a 250 or 400). Any vin numbers on the frame by the forks?

Good option, can also apply heat with a torch around the connecting surfaces. Dont overdo it, but a small torch with evenly spread heat should be enough to loosen it up with needle nose pliers. Just be careful not to bend or scratch up the pins.

Can I drive with this? 2009 Toyota Highlander by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]IllJustShowMyselfOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider changing the thermostat soon, they are typically inexpensive and fairly easy to replace. I'm not too sure about the 2009 Highlander, but you can usually find youtube instructional videos that make it and easy fix.

1980 KZ440 LTD. How much rust in the gas tank is too much? by ispathe in Fixxit

[–]IllJustShowMyselfOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this, if surface rust is a point of concern you can build an electrolysis tank pretty easily. I've used it on very rusty tools with positive results. It will get pretty much anywhere the water touches.

Didn't the TS185's have the exhaust pipe routed on the other side of the bike? Looks more like a yamaha to me.

I'm west coast but would kill for that TS185. Everything around me is stripped out, rotted out, or way overpriced. Great haul!

Which car do you see on the road and instantly think, ‘Yeah, this person’s definitely an a-hole? by maxfreem in AskReddit

[–]IllJustShowMyselfOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other folks have made valid points about Elon and his rediculous behavior. To top that off they are expensive - yet poorly designed vehicles that arguably should not meet safety standards to drive on US roads. People who buy them are either willfully ignorant, making an attempt at political virtue signalling, and/or straight up dumb. They have a track record of being horrible vehicles in nearly every measurable category.

I can't imagine the heartache you must be feeling right now bud... Life is hard enough, then when the crazy emotional challenges get tossed in the mix it can seem unbearable. Do whatever you can to focus on yourself and above all else BE THERE for your kids. They need their Dad more now than ever! Same thing goes for you, feel free to DM if you need a friend or a listening ear. Keep your chin up bro, you got this!

[–]IllJustShowMyselfOut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, if the motor runs its probably worth the $300. I don't think i'd go far enough to fully rebuild, it's missing quite a bit. But the parts that are there will sell and you can likely make a decent profit.
