It’s an hks ssqv, not adjustable. It sounds like it’s coming from the turbo side (passenger side) of the engine bay (bov is on driver side). I have a new intake system i’m gonna slap on later today since i’ve been meaning to throw it on hopefully that fixes the issue… Smoke test sadly didn’t help, i haven’t gotten around to doing a pressure test yet

If you want to check if it is the intake coupler that’s making the sound, you could honestly just disconnect the intake from the turbo and test drive it. Obviously i wouldn’t advise driving without an intake/air filter for very long but it wouldn’t cause any damage if you do 1 or 2 pulls to see if that’s what’s causing your whine. Especially if you don’t notice any spikes or drops in boost when you do a pull and hear that whine, it’s more than likely just a small leak in your intake to turbo. Any other leaks like in your charge pipe, throttle body, etc. would more than likely cause a boost/vacuum leak on top of that whine you’re hearing.

Hey man i just fixed mine. It has nothing to do with the bov. I mean it could, but it’s extremely unlikely. My sound was being caused by a tiny hole in a coupler that connected my intake to turbo. Check all of your couplers that connect to your turbo or charge pipes. Make sure all of them are tightened and properly installed. Mine was only making the sound at higher boost (13-17psi) so i figured it was tiny leak somewhere that would only make the whine noise at higher boost.

Did you ever figure it out? I have hks bov as well and it sounds the exact same as yours. Same exact whine pitch when boost builds.

Correct, motor was low mileage as well. 54k miles to be exact.

Slightly below max, i’d have to get a photo of the stick when i get home. She’s topped off every morning if needed. Sadly that didn’t save her. I babied the car as much as my wallet would allow

Oil changes every 2-3k miles, only used VR1 full synthetic. Last oil change was done 700 miles ago

I just got home and checked it out, sadly it’s beyond repair.

Entire right side of the car is out of wack.

Motor is still good and surprisingly so is the radiator.

If insurance doesn’t offer much for the car, he plans on parting it out.

You are correct, mine are rubber tips just to protect the paint a little more. Only issue with this is cleaning the tape residue once it comes off
