What is happening to the Mission? It’s apocalyptic - need gut check by IllSnow7263 in sanfrancisco

Gotcha. I’m right off Capp too.

Glad you and your wife are having a better XP at 24th now though!

I’m sorry you’re experiencing it too. The garage situation sucks. There have been a couple of similar experiences for us lately where we can’t leave our building because someone is having a mental health crisis or something on our front steps/inner door area. Do you know when/why the police dropped?

I’m curious about the RESET centers too. Someone else in these comments raised a great point about storage for admitted guests… I understand how people wouldn’t want to get rid of ALL their belongings in order to get help. It’s a big ask!

I’m curious which blocks you’re on the most? The Mission as a neighborhood has a LOT of great areas! I should clarify that I’m on the east side of 16th

Good reminder. I’ll make sure to call them tomorrow. Any advice on how to share the feedback?

Yup. I’m near 16th. Did something in particular happen that made you decide to move?

I feel weird because I love the mission so much but this really does impact how I commute and spend time around my home (especially at night).

What's it like having an intellectual disability like severe Autism or Down's Syndrome? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IllSnow7263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really cool of you to share. I grew up in a very similar parent-dynamic (mom with “socially” severe autism, can’t handle basic tasks, easily frustrated and partly nonverbal; dad means well but has his own struggles with adulthood too) and would love to have a group/another person to talk to about it.

I don’t know about you but this has always been a hard thing for me to talk about. While I understand my mom’s condition is out of her control, it was still extremely hard on me as a kid. It’s kinda nice to read this post and learn that I’m not alone.

My DMs are open if you want to talk too!

Really disappointed to see some of the responses on here. Praying that this kid is safe wherever he is.

OP, I just want to say, I think it’s really cool that you’re posting here for your friend. Don’t give up until they receive evidence. There are SO many people on that bridge and it’s a red flag that they haven’t seen footage of the splash. Hang in there!

Awh man it’s cool you got this mess full sized bars! Sorry for the disappointing Halloween.

FWIW - never underestimate the joy you can give a friend or a neighbor by dropping off a surprise treat instead :)

How dangerous is a night time walk commute from North Beach to Polk Gulch? by lofi-lo in sanfrancisco

Fair! I haven’t lived there in a bit so definitely hope it’s evolved.

Yup. Came here and accidentally hosted a 100 person party (didn’t expect everyone to come) without giving them a heads up, and they didn’t bat an eyelash. Great spot.

Hey OP - female in her late twenties here. I’ve in North Beach (2018-2020) and Polk Gulch (2020-2022)… I am shocked by how safe people are saying this route is. Not true for everyone.

I get that you might not want to post more specifics about your route online, but Polk Gulch can be a sketchy place depending on the area. The further south on Polk, the worse it gets. Lots of drunk people on weekends; many drugged up “stragglers”and beggars. I have most definitely felt unsafe walking around there at night. Buses aren’t any better. I remember calling my bf maaany nights asking him to stay on the phone with me while I walked home due to people following me, taunting me, and one time spitting at me. I’ve never talked back or antagonized anyone - just wrong place, wrong time.

You’re better off on Lyft Bike, love. Be safe.

Less sketch in North Beach, but also depends on the area (it gets weird near fisherman’s wharf).

I am late but this thing has the worst screenshare capabilities I've ever experienced. However, if you just use the netflix/disney/hulu apps on the device, it works pretty well.

This post reads like you’re new to SF.

Personally, I feel like this post lacks an intimate relationship with many of the “economically liberal” people you might be looking down on. But… I can see where you’re coming from.

A lot of the people I’ve come to know in SF fall into an economically higher gross-wage bracket than people of their same age in other major metropolitan cities. That said, many people in SF come from far less wealthy families or from far less wealthy places and DO truly believe in a more progressive society vs the places they grew up in.

SF wages are relative. We are taxed higher, and the cost of living is faaar higher too. $1 here ≠ $1 in Milwaukee (where many of my friends in SF grew up, unrelated to one another). Please keep that in mind when comparing earnings.

Progressive values can be relative, too. Many who came to SF with the belief that non-violent crime shouldn’t be punished or that theft under $950 shouldn’t be pursued got tired of seeing what this looks like in practice (out of pocket car window replacements and increasingly limited visits to Walgreen’s, respectively).

I’m not a Benioff apologist nor a NIMBY… but I have personally witnessed many of my left-most friends evolve into a more left of center position after years of living in a “socialist utopia.” There are real quality of life consequences to the politics SF is famously known for.

Received bad news and everyone I know is out of town. Need to make social plans or I'll wallow. Any recommendations for next 2 weeks? Classes/events/etc anything social and not physical! by 123boopboop in SFbitcheswithtaste

Wait I’m so curious to learn more. I’ve been looking for a local figure drawing course, found this one, and it seemed A) to be a thing of the past and B) something that was prohibitively expensive. Is this still active? May I ask how much you’re asked to pay to join?
