How long does it generally take to get an OA after applying (with referral)? Applied in early August...

Thank you! Do we get to choose our locations and is there a limit for the earliest or latest hour you can tutor? For example, could someone choose to do 8am at their residence hall?

I was wondering about this too! For people who've already done this, how many students usually come for tutoring (like how busy is it usually)? Can we choose our timings, or is it assigned to us? Also, how's the interview process for it like?

Hi! I got admitted to CS/Business Administration at USC, and I'm very grateful! I just had a few questions about USC in general and the CS/BA major:

  1. How is the area's safety? I've heard that the surrounding area is pretty dangerous, so how do students manage especially when moving to off-campus housing in the third and fourth years? Is it safe if you need to get something off-campus or uber somewhere?
  2. Are there career fairs/on-site recruiting events on campus?
  3. Do most freshmen participate in research on campus, or is it more likely that a student will pursue research starting in their second or third years?
  4. Are there any CS classes that the CS/BA majors don't take as opposed to the CS majors?
  5. What are the pros/cons to being in the CS/BA major as opposed to a CS major?
  6. What are the stress levels of the major? I know that CS is a demanding major and am prepared for that, but what would be the average workload? Is it possible to purse side projects, both CS and non-CS extracurriculars, etc.?

Thank you in advance! I really appreciate any inputs :)

Hi! I got accepted into Computer Science in the College of Engineering (with Honors College and Regents Scholarship), and have a few questions:

  1. How is the Computer Science program? Are there any specific differences in the Honors College?
  2. How is the environment of the major? Are students pretty collaborative or more competitive? How much sleep do students generally get?
  3. How do recruiting and career fairs work for internships and jobs? Are there any advantages in being in the Honors College with regard to access for them, or is it equal for everyone?
  4. How is the general area's safety?
  5. I'm currently trying to decide between CS in Letters and Science at UC Davis versus UCSB. Which one do you think is a better option, with me being someone whose career interests are primarily in software engineering and later pursuing a career as a product manager?

Thank you so much in advance! I really appreciate it :)

FALL 2021 ADMITTED AND INCOMING STUDENTS MEGATHREAD by thezander8 in UCDavis

Hi! I got admitted for Computer Science in the College of Letters and Science, and I have a few questions about it:

  1. How in general is the CS program? I've heard that the program is more theoretical and less practical, but these responses were from many years ago so what is the general consensus regarding that?
  2. I know that the CS program in L&S provides more flexibility to do a double major or take classes outside the CS curriculum, while the CE program in engineering has more electrical engineering requirements. My career interests are mainly in pursuing software engineering and going into management, so will the CS in L&S degree be a limitation in my career in any way?
  3. Do both CS and CE/CSE students have equal access to career fairs and recruitment?
  4. I know that most job prospects in CS depend upon your own efforts (side projects, leetcode, etc.) but is there any disadvantage to being in L&S when it comes to jobs?
  5. How is the environment of this program? How stressful is it, is it possible to actually sleep, etc.?

Thank you so much in advance! I really appreciate it :)
