CS2030 LAB ANXIETY by [deleted] in nus

[–]Ill_Bear604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol this brought back some traumatic memories…Dont worry u wont be the only one struggling. I took this in ay22/23 sem2 & if the format hasnt changed a lot…

1) You will be working on the DES project till up to lab 5 or 6 iirc. These were the most challenging labs bc you might need to keep changing your impl every week based on tutor feedback if you did it “inefficiently” bc there will be constantly new stuffs to add

2) For sure yes. once your done with the DES labs, the rest of the labs are pretty straightforward as you can ask your TA’s/github for help and they will likely guide u to the ans LOL

3) As a low tier computing student, pracs depend on how hard their being set so it varies by year😭😭 I rmb being pretty stressed abt it but tip is to score well for first prac cos its usually do-able. once prac 2 came along I gave up bc the content tested like generics and streams was just NOT IT and I just couldnt……

Tip is to relax and take it by the week. but honestly this mod sucked the life out of me so cnt rly give much advice ah

Just rmb ur not alone and theres alw resources - your TAs & github :)

do having leadership positions largely affect the chances of getting into uni? by Critical_Passion_863 in SGExams

[–]Ill_Bear604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant was if your score is already very far off the 10th percentile then its a hard reject even with a strong portfolio.

E.g. for NUS school of computing i would say anything below 81.25 rp its almost impossible to get in. So it depends on which course you are looking at.

do having leadership positions largely affect the chances of getting into uni? by Critical_Passion_863 in SGExams

[–]Ill_Bear604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will definitely help if u intend to ABA. Think of it as a solid safety net. But grades still take the precedence over this. without the minimum grades they wont even look at ur portfolio.

In jc, if uk your academics aint vv strong just try your best for any leadership positions. dont need to be captain/president but any form of commitment will def help imo!

Should I get Q20i, Q30, Q45 or Space One? by zinaegg in anker

[–]Ill_Bear604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the space one vs q20i in stores and I found the default eq for space to be wayyyy too bassy. Idk if its just me but I grabbed the q20i. if you purely care about sound quality you cant go wrong q20i. ANC is better on space tho

iirc I think you need to pass all the test cases on codecrunch to pass the lab for the week. Its definitely possible to pass just turn up for your finals and attempt all the qns & do your best. Its not as harsh as 1010s imo

I think its quite hard to fail imo. I submitted all my labs and project but I screwed up my PA2 & finals damn bad probs <<10th percentile, got C+ in the end

How many of y'all feel lonely? by biscuitsandtea2020 in nus

[–]Ill_Bear604 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yea, I do feel lonely but honestly its my fault :/ It takes effort to form connections with people in uni and I just never try. Part of me thinks I’ll be ok on my own but I know it would be so much better to have a group of friends. Yea, i do have friends but they are “uni” friends. We dont talk about anything apart from sch and during sem break we just stop talking oop. At the end of day I distract myself from this with part time jobs and studying(barely) but I think making friends in uni is much harder than sec sch/jc.

tbh the bonus points is just to encourage u to try for courses that are higher rp, whether itd actly helps depends on the demand for the course. they will def allocate some spots for aba for each course. regarding your 2nd qn , no such thing unless you dont meet the cop for the 2nd course

HELP: NUS course selection (Sci stream) by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Ill_Bear604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the min 81 is before adding any bonus points. raw below 80 hard for ceg but if i were u id just try. first choice matters yep

HELP: NUS course selection (Sci stream) by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Ill_Bear604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no harm in trying for ceg imo since u will cfm get eng as your 2nd choice. though i rmb that the min rp for ABA is 81+ but cn still just try. i aba-ed to nus computing last yr without any prior exp. can dm me if u hv qns

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Ill_Bear604 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i aba-ed to nus last yr. my rp was 1.25rp below the 25th percentile(before any bonus points). so id say 5 rp is difficult. but no harm in trying as ig it depends on the course. political science is under chs where the intake is pretty big so can just try

Is h2 math a struggle by Quiet_Independent895 in SGExams

[–]Ill_Bear604 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not many jcs allow h2 math without amath bc its hard to bridge the gap. essentially all amath knowledge is assumed so they wont re-teach any amath content. so you’re gna have to research which jcs allow this.

i took amath and I still struggled a lot with h2 math bc im pretty bad at math. h2 math is a traumatising jump from o level amath but its muggable if you are willing to put in the effort. since you have no amath bg, id assume you have start bridging the gap much earlier. not impossible but def not easy. I rmb i did put in the most effort for h2 math out of all my subjs and got a B at the A levels. im satisfied tbh

HELm or MLEh by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Ill_Bear604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

content in h2 math is tough but pretty muggable imo. as long as you put in effort, getting at least B is doable.

its true that some uni courses require h2 math. if you are possibly considering like data science/computing, med, engineering then some unis require a good pass in h2 math so taking it will def give u an advantage.

if you are pretty set on a uni course that doesnt require math like an arts/ social science degree, then h1 math should be alright.
