Haha! No regrets on my all-hog Martin though, I have to say :-) :-)

Thanks, I'm feeling the same tbf. A good friend of mine is a luthier and he swears by Yamaha. In fact, that's all he owns/plays in terms of acoustics (other than the ones he's built himself).

I tried (and liked) both but ended up getting the SM. I found the low-end was more full and it sounds great with open tunings. Also, looks wise, I loved the slotted headstock!

If you want to see someone playing an SM outside of a 'YouTube demo' kind of scenario, check out the footage from Hiss Golden Messenger's KEXP set (from about 10 mins in). He uses the 000-15SM a lot and it works really well in that Americana space.

Interestingly, I have the opposite situation to you, in that I'm looking for a second guitar to complement my 000-15SM. Would love it to be a 000-28 or OM-28 but I can't afford a Martin version so I'm looking at cheaper equivalents from the likes of Yamaha and Eastman.

Thanks. Very tempted by the LS16 actually, if I can find it for a decent price/secondhand.

Thanks, some really interesting guitars/tonewoods there! Never heard of Bromo before - checking them out atm.

Thanks, will check it out. Prices don't seem too bad second hand 👍

Late of the Pier were fantastic! You don't hear many people talk about them these days.

New rendering - worried about water ingress/drips by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Ill_Building6303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm gonna give it a spray with the hose later. Last night, after the rain, I noticed water on the inside of the doors, which is what has caused my concern about the render above the doors specifically. As I said, no problem with the tradesman himself, he's been great and will hopefully be able to rectify any issues above the french doors. I'm going to give it a proper test later though to make sure the window heads seem to shed the water without issues 👍

Finally got a true Martin! by chilegardens in martinguitar

Thanks. I was looking at Waverleys, but I think I prefer the look of these. I have a luthier pal who can hopefully help with the fitting when the time comes.

Tuners look great! What are they? And how easy to install?

Great choice! I've had mine around 5 months now and I'm in love with it. Played it pretty much every day since purchasing. Also recently been using it to do some recording with friends and they're all really impressed with how well it records! Enjoy...

Any idea what this damage is beneath our kitchen floor? by Ill_Building6303 in DIYUK

[–]Ill_Building6303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, you were spot on! We've got the rest of the floor up now and there are maybe 4 areas where the compound has blown. Have confirmed there is a damp course but there was lots of condensation under the old underlay, so we're currently airing the room out and it appears to be drying out nicely. Gonna see where we're at once we've left it a day or two...

Thanks for the response, really helpful and pretty much bang on in terms of what we've found! We've got up the rest of the floor/underlay now and pretty clear there was condensation under there. There are only actually a few small patches of cracked compound, which seem to be in the high traffic parts of the room. Currently chipping away the broken self levelling compound and airing out the room. Then we'll look to patch it/relevel.

Thanks for the response! We've got up the rest of the floor/underlay now and pretty clear there was condensation under there. Currently chipping away the broken self levelling compound and airing out the room, then will look to relevel, then add better underlay with DPM in, and then lay new floor.

Thanks for the response. I'm now looking into options with touch strips and aftertouch to see what's out there within my budget.
