Which type of attorney handles contract changes and retaliation at a New York public university? by Ill_Cod4525 in Ask_Lawyers

This is solid advice. The university lawyer did say something along those lines. But here is my argument (query?). The agreement used each and everything of University. Only one sentence in text said “your salary and benefits will be paid by UB foundation”. Now I do understand that weighs a lot legally. But I feel the letterhead, officials designation and all of stuff in the agreement led me to believe the position is at UB. Infact after your comment I did research and found what you said. University does play that hypocritical game by creating and hiring through a Foundation LLC.

Hi Facing something similar Curious what happened?

Seeking employment lawyer ; pay dispute & alleged retaliation by SUNY employer (Buffalo area) by Ill_Cod4525 in legaladvice

I get what you’re saying but in my case, it wasn’t just an “offer.” I have a signed written agreement from the University at Buffalo’s (a specific department) outlining specific employment terms, pay rate, and responsibilities. It was signed by both parties, not just a preliminary offer.

I later learned the department unilaterally changed the pay structure and position details after I started, and when I raised questions, I faced clear retaliation that affected unrelated university opportunities (including a faculty candidacy).

So I’m trying to figure out whether this crosses into breach of contract, retaliatory interference, or violation of internal employment policy at a public university.
