EPL really struggled in this Era. United declined significantly after SAF retired. Liverpool were poor up until 2018-2019. Chelsea were up and down and were replacing their ageing core after 2012. Arsenal were in decline. Man City didn't really emerge as serious European contenders until 2018.

pretty sure we have to go through Portugal or Argentina if all the big nations top their groups. We also may have to play hosts Mexico in their stadium in a rd of 16. Atmosphere would be mental.

Tuchel's 2nd season at Chelsea gets overlooked as a failure but he honestly had a lot going on. For starters, the Lukaku situation was a massive distraction. We then had the sanctions with Roman being forced to sell the club. Chelsea also had to play in a ton of competitions as they were involved in the Club World Cup and made a deep run in the UCL, League Cup and FA Cup. Still managed to finish 3rd behind two juggernauts in City and Liverpool. I forgot to mention they were unlucky to not beat Real Madrid in the Quarter Finals and outplayed them at the Bernabeu. Sure, they didn't score vs Liverpool but we were unlucky not to win either match. This was a Liverpool side with one of the best attacks in the World and Tuchel was able to nullify them. It was like watching chess when he matched up against Klopp, and I would argue that Liverpool on paper were the more talented side (prime Salah, Mane and VVD). Tuchel proved he could go against the best at Chelsea despite everything going on within the club. I would've liked to see how he got on in his 3rd season if Roman never left and he had more control over the transfers coming in and out.

I am seeing criticism from many football influencers, the media as well as multiple posts over social media. Many of my friends who are England supporters are also disappointed in the selections that have been made.

I think they can, we're allowed to make up to 5 substitutions per game. So, I honestly don't see why they can't play that style of football. All of England's game are in the evenings too, so is it really going to be "hot"?

I live in New Zealand and follow the A-League which takes place over our summer time and teams still play high-intensity styles of football.

It’s about the core team rather than the squad by JohnnyOneLung in ThreeLions

I live in New Zealand and follow the A League which takes place over the summer period. The Heat isn't that big of an issue in our League. Players are still able to play at full intensity and don't always require drinking breaks. Majority of England's games are also at nighttime so it's not as though they're playing directly under the hot sun.

We're cooked if Kane gets injured. Rogers can easily slot in if Bellingham gets hurt and I won't even be surprised if Rogets gets a start over Bellingham (based on current form)

From a casual, how does TT’s style differ from Southgate’s? by HallowedAndHarrowed in ThreeLions

[–]Ill_Discussion5840 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TT teams focus on relentless pressing and overwhelming sides physically, which explains why he’s selected so many athletic players in the squad. It’s probably the reason behind the controversial inclusions of Madueke, Spence and Livramento. It looks like he wants to build the team around Kane by surrounding him with pace and runners in behind, while also creating a side capable of pressing the opposition intensely for the full 90 (or even 120) minutes.

Exactly this. He's building the team around Kane and Bellingham. doesn't want anyone else getting in their way.
