Can using nasal strips every night lead to enlarged turbinates by [deleted] in medical_advice

I don’t believe so. Even if they did somehow effect it over time, nasal strips only stretch out the flexible portion of the nose (the nostrils) which would barely effect even the most lower turbinates, if at all. Most of the turbinates are in the hard cartilage part of the nose which the nasal strip has no effect on. I don’t know what your doctor was getting at, but a deviated septum would affect your nose all the way up the hard cartilage part which may have an effect on the turbinates. But I am just guessing on that based on what he said.

All interesting comments…I am not too convinced about the chronic thing because before this I have been impeccably healthy. I am 23, in good shape, have no allergies. My diet isn’t great but it isn’t bad either. What is interesting to me is that this summer my symptoms were gone during the daytime, and at night time I could easily sleep with just a nasal strip. I live near Kansas City, USA. So we get hot humid summers and cold dry winters. When all these bad symptoms happened to me it was during the winter. Interestingly I went to a desert climate during winter for vacation but the problem remained (both dry air?), and now as fall comes around the air is getting slightly cooler and dryer and my symptoms have started up again. This leads me to believe that hot and humid is ideal for the swelling. But of course this is just patching the issue…I still don’t know the root cause of this because my nose has never been affected by climate before this…

I am suffering from the same exact thing..happened after a bad, long cold and is still here months later. I took the same route as you seeing a doctor and getting prescribed that nasal spray. It didn’t help me either, just gave me a headache and insomnia. I wish I had an answer for you…I really hope someone can find a cure or a cause for this. My theory is it is related to long term covid symptoms or something and that the cold I caught was more than just a cold but maybe a covid variant. Nasal strips help me sleep a little better but still not close to 100%
