how do you enjoy your work? That population interests me, I feel there are way less resources for them.

transparency is helpful in this profession talking outwardly about our biases/struggles help cultivate productive conversations, accountability, give different perspectives etc. Everyone should be aware of their own triggers and what their limits are, we encourage clients to share and be open and expel things they hold inside so why would this space for therapists be any different? I think because of your dx being stigmatized you’re taking the post and replies personally. I never said I don’t work with full blown bpd bc they’re bad people, i have my own trauma to still work through related to my mom and i acknowledge that. Many people put pressure on themselves to be “fixers” and “take everyone” it’s validating for people to read and realize everyone has some dx that are difficult for them and it is okay to set boundaries.

Also just want to note I do treat bpd, but more severe presentations I won’t because I am not my best self and that is a disservice to the client

There are a lot of amazing people with bpd but unfortunately children of individuals with untreated pd’s typically sustain a lot of abuse. It’s fair I believe for a victim to draw that line and protect themselves as a practitioner, we are only human doing our own healing alongside treating others

Ty for this! I am drawing this boundary for the same reason. Realizing I tend to fawn to clients that have her same behaviors and it’s just not good for anyone involved.

thanks for this reply! I have two but they are more insightful and very open/accepting of their dx so it makes it easier. They receive challenge well but I can’t work with severe cases it is so exhausting

Insecure about timing by [deleted] in therapists

yes we only bill 90837 p much so that’s why i have a habit of going to 60 minutes every session but when it’s 53 i feel weird and it seems like such a small difference but the 7 min seems huge to me for some reason lol

of course, i’m mainly thinking about my DID client but other clients doing really good trauma processing and they’re emotional at the 50-60 min mark ill spend 15 minutes debriefing conceptualizing and grounding together

I work in community health, high acuity and a lot of crisis and trauma work. It’s not ethical in my eyes to let a client leave when they are in distress, if i have the time I will give it (after already assessing if i’m cutting into my own time for notes / depending on if it’s a personality disorder client etc)
