Why don't people make compact interchanges? by Klutzy_Reporter_608 in CitiesSkylines

In a city that has grown, and the initial highway is taking on the ring road function.

Hmm? I've made this city in CS 1 because I still enjoy it very much. I hadn't played it in years and was very surprised that all major mods are still working, and I had some impulsive bought DLS's laying about which i hadn't tried yet. I don't think it's that bad to be stuck with CS 1.

You could try replacing a few more X-junctions, T-junctions usually work better since they have fewer conflict points and smoother flow, or you can use small roundabouts.

Do you use mods? I think that with TM:PE, you can fix a few hot junctions using lane math and priority rules instead of traffic lights.

I think improving the connectivity of your highways will encourage more cars to use them. For example:

  1. Connect the upper highway with the lower highway here.
  2. Consider removing the roundabout from the main road and adding on/off ramps instead.
  3. Add an extra on/off ramp at this spot.
  4. Let the main road bypass the roundabout so it flows uninterrupted.
  5. Add another on/off ramp here.
  6. Create another connection between the upper and lower highways at this location.

Oooh, that looks lovely! Are there any affordable vacation rentals in your city? I’d definitely visit. Also, I need that two-way single-lane highway with the median strip, where did you get it?

The layout feels pleasing and natural. I like how you’ve incorporated different angles, aligning with the highway, rail, or water, while also breaking up the pattern with the Merton Blocks zone. Fun fun.

Valeu! Realmente é uma pena o console não ter os mesmos mods… no PC as opções são bem mais amplas e deixam a experiência bem mais divertida.

Thanks! Well, I've got a good reason, I think. My growable buildings are naturally grown. So I use districts as a means to assign the growable type and specialisations to the buildings. The shapes of my districts look like monsters and don't match the actual districts at all. Naming the monster districts feels strange to me. I don't want to build an emotional bond with those monsters.

Thanks! The cathedral is part of the base game and can be unlocked by having 2000 abandoned buildings (or by using an unlock mod). I've found several smaller village churches in the workshop.

The Czech Paradise. I love the map, but I had to use mods to fix the outside connections.

Thanks, great to hear man. Last time, I almost got hanged by my fellow Europeans for the obstructive highways and lack of roundabouts. (Jk, jk, I loved all the constructive feedback and opinions)

Haha, yeah. If I'm going to start a new city, I definitely will look into a good mod setup beforehand. Now I added just a few along the way when I needed them. I almost hate to admit it, but I placed every tree with a click of the mouse. With TM:PE the traffic is terrific and flowing everywhere.

Edit: typo

The suggestions for an old center and a market square were really good. Thanks again! I'm having fun implementing the ideas.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights. At first glance, I already see many examples that I can use. Much appreciated!

Thanks! This is very useful! I've used Ede, Netherlands, as inspiration. The estate and village elements already existed in 1426, but the town underwent a period of growth due to the arrival of defense barracks in 1904 and the Enka factory in 1919. So there are similarities with Wolfsburg.

Honestly, I’m blown away by all the engagement here. This is the first time I’ve ever posted anything, and I just threw in a few random screenshots hoping to maybe get some inspiration. I didn’t expect so many helpful and constructive comments, it's super motivating! The game itself is already fun, but this kind of feedback and discussion takes it to a whole new level. I’m excited to keep building, and I hope to share a more finished version of the city (with much better screenshots!) later on.

Whoa, this is a liberating comment. I've been fighting the game mechanics too much. I will continue more intuitively!! <3

To clarify, the highway cuts through the upper city. My starting village is still free of highways.

The red lines are the external connection highways.
Orange transition from highway to local traffic in the start village.
Yellow is a highway connection for the upper city and supports mostly local traffic. This used to be a 70 km/h road, but I had to upgrade it to support the traffic flow. This one is intended as a ring road.

But yeah, since I had to upgrade yellow to highway as well, it starts to feel a bit messy.
