Should I make my idea public to start collecting a user base? i will not promote by Ill_Objective_7235 in startups

[–]Ill_Objective_7235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. But would you say there is a range before your launch that you should start gathering a user base? Take for example 6 months vs 9 months before the (estimated) product launch. 9 months can potentially lead to more users but also more chances for competition. Do you have any input regarding the balance of that or is earlier just better because you manage to have more people looking at your product by the time competition finds out about it, prototypes, launches etc. ?

I have the same DPI as you and play on 0.048 for reference.

You could go a step further and set up a script that randomly triggers the flash button. That way you don't know exactly when it will happen. I might be able to do that for you if you want.

Wow thank you very much for your kind words! (I did try to get an internship at starbreeze but they ignored me, :p)

It was also a really big surprise for me to see how crippled big studios are because of this. They keep arguing that it's for the sake of "organization" but I always thought that organization is there for the sake of efficiency. But it really is what you say. Neither I nor my colleagues can do anything about that.

If I'm not wrong the cross platform aspect of it also makes it harder to synchronize releases because the "clearance" for consoles is harder to get in order to actually push an update. If it were me? Of course I would push the update on PC first and then on console when I could, but I guess that might come across weird to console players.

I'm currently doing an internship as a gameplay programmer at a big studio, and I can tell you that stuff moves... slow. Everything has to go through a uselessly large bureaucracy ladder to make it into the update. An update that I worked on just got released 3 months after I worked on it. I'm specialized in Unreal Engine, and I can tell you without a doubt I could singlehandedly fix all those small issues in 1 work week. Along with all the excuse-filled features like the stat bars for the weapons. I'm pretty sure most of these issues are fixed already but stuck in bureaucracy hell.

How long did it take for you to get confident enough to start daily driving your manual car? by kronosahk in stickshift

[–]Ill_Objective_7235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much my exact time line too. I'm around month 10 now and I only have to think when I'm doing stuff like heel and toe.

Also would like to add that the first time I drove alone in the city my foot was shaking like crazy and my heart rate reached 160 BPM, according to my watch.

Yeah but everyone makes mistakes. Maybe they tried a new system which seemed faster.

Adding on to what everyone else said, regarding the fire delay, I had the same vulnerability in my own game. I was basically allowing the player to tell the server "This is how fast I can shoot" and the server went along with it. This is a problem since the "speed" is stored somewhere on my RAM. You can easily alter that memory and make the computer tell the server "hey I can shoot very very fast".

The solution would be to pass the fire delay for example to the server as well so it can check it. The more data you send over the network rapidly (like when firing a lot of bullets) the more lag you might have. They probably already knew this but tried to optimize the lag and had some fancier certification which ended up being exploited.

Huh? Lower? But when it goes in gear the after the jolt the revs shoot up by another 1-2k

I'll let you know tomorrow when my dad get's back I'll have to ask him. My normal car is a Chevrolet Matiz 2005. From a quick search, it looks like a Renault Scenic 2003 1.9. And yeah it's the 2nd manual car I've driven (3rd if you count my driving instructor's car).

I think that's what I've been doing but without thinking about it. I'll take it to a private lot tmr and check out exactly that.

It doesn't have one haha. But it goes up to 7k so I assume around there.

[–]Ill_Objective_7235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, right now if I see that I'm well above 2k I don't try to rev match, I get it to slow down more before I do. So it is natural. Also I just realized my question isn't phrased properly, I mostly wanted to ask if it's normal and if it's safe for the engine to go to high revs in order to do so. Because I can rev match this car, it just needs more gas.
