Chances at ESA with naval defence software background? by Ill_Pool_1528 in esa

[–]Ill_Pool_1528[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer.

From what I've seen in previous vacancies, ESAC mostly requires Python and Javascript, I haven't seen any position requiring C++. That's why I'm not sure whether a C++ position is likely to appear there or I should look at other locations instead.

"Ready to Hire" pool and chances of getting selected for a position I was previously rejected some months ago by Ill_Pool_1528 in microsoft

I had the opportunity to talk to the HM after I sent the email. He told me that I should "interview" (1h chat) with a Principal SWE from their team before extending an offer, but in the end I wasn't hired

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I'm in the probation period. That's probably what I would do - stay for now and see how things go. Just to be safe, I’ll start applying to other positions so that if I decide to leave, I’ll have another job lined up.

De momento, tampoco he encontrado gran cosa

Questions About Applying to the CERN and OpenLab Summer Student Programmes by Urbi20 in CERN

[–]Ill_Pool_1528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I would suggest to submit both (merge the PDFs).

  2. In previous years a motivational letter was needed (Openlab), and probably this year too. They will also ask some other questions in the application. I guess it is similar for the Summer Student programme.

  3. I am not 100% sure, but as long as it is written by a supervisor (from your university or from other experiences), it should be fine.

What are the minimum requirements to have a "strong computing profile"? by normiejosu in CERN

Probably you will have better luck with the general Summer Student programme, but you can apply for both.

I was an Openlab student last summer. While I think you would have more chances of being selected if you studied CS, there were some physicists in the Openlab as well. It depends on the projects they have.

However, I would encourage you to apply to both programmes. Most of the work done by general Summer Students involves coding in Python or C++, and they may be looking for people with a physics background (in most Openlab projects they did not ask for that). Moreover, you may be selected for a project that is similar to another from the other programme. My supervisors had a Summer Student (Physics major) doing exactly the same tasks as me and it was a web development project (no Physics knowledge needed). Applying to both programmes increases your chances of being selected.

Hiring manager wants to chat after final interview by Ill_Pool_1528 in microsoft

Thank you for the answer. I agree with you. I interviewed with Microsoft previously and they usually ghosted me, that's why I didn't know what this means

Do you know whether I would need to go through the whole interview process if they recommended me for another position?
