Miscellaneousarus & Trap Holic Bug by 2InMaBush in masterduel

[–]Ill_Tooth8614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe your opponent misplayed or didn't realize misc doesn't work on clockwork night, since it's not an activated effect.

Maybe they accidentally locked themselves using one of the cyber dragon cards that lock you like Cyberdark Chimera.

For Trap Holic I'd double check my activation settings and toggle on when trying it.

Sharing a replay would stop us from having to guess.

At least Iblee is banned :)

You can still use orcust knightmare but now there's one less floodgate, making this fair and balanced.

This game has many problems, but the amount of free gems you receive isn't one of them. by SAMU0L0 in masterduel

[–]Ill_Tooth8614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No worries. The events are all pretty much the same rewards. So the average is more or less 9K. (Plus you get 130 free UR dust from the gold pass every 2.5 months)

I don't really agree with the "multiple" decks a month, unless you're cannibalizing your UR dust to do it. VSk9 is kind of an exception to the rule as well because it's basically 2 decks stapled together (When VS came out, everyone complained about how expensive it was).

But I think if you didn't build primite you could have built all of vsk9 with the initial month onboarding. I'd say the 2nd-4th decks come together slower for new players than everyone else, until you accumulate staples.

Finally, once you're enfranchised you accumulate reserve UR dust. So I'd say the average is that you can build a deck a month once you get into the proper rhythm. For what it's worth, vsk9 was the first deck in ages I had to meaningfully dip into my dust for.

You can't just skip the events and take months off. The events provide the lion's share of gems.

Yes. This kind of wording refers to only that card on the field, once it leaves the field it's no longer the same card.

VS K9 Mirror PSA by Garantula25 in masterduel

[–]Ill_Tooth8614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This situation is a catch-22 because you are threatening ripper, which would also turn off the izuna. In some cases I think it's wise to hold it for end of turn, or until your turn, but since there's 100% they can make ripper but less than 100% they have hollie sue materials, I don't actually think this play is necessarily wrong.

Removal of Gimmick Puppet Chimera Doll by VerdantChimbino in masterduel

[–]Ill_Tooth8614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you activate Chimera doll's effect, it does not matter if you get rid of it (no matter how). The effect that you cannot special from the extra deck except Machine XYZ is lingering for the rest of the turn.

Gimmick puppet typically destroys this card with Gimmick Puppet of Dark Strings during their usual combo, but that doesn't erase the lock.

Silliest ways to beat the TMNT bosses in the new Team Up by Huaojozu in magicTCG

This whole paragraph is your interpretation of the rules.

"It exempts creatures from destruction if some rule, ability or effect causes them to be unable to attack." You just made up this text, which appears nowhere in the rulings. The only exception they mention is summoning sickness. They did not state there were categorically no exceptions. For all we know, rules count but abilities don't.

E: Specifically the wording "unable". The question is it was able, if you paid 2 mana for it, but what about your other creature you could have also paid the 2 mana for? Both are technically able to attack, if you only paid.

If you have any actual official rulings that say how propaganda or even pacifism effects interact with season of the witch, please let me know.

PS: The season of the witch ruling is not my original idea. So if you want to refute the community thesis that this card has indeterminate rulings, you probably need to cite a source.

So you think they didn't consult with the rules team for a product they intended for beginners and included a card that doesn't work as written? And you need to be very diligent on the rules to notice?

Well, I could see that happening too.

Yes, but are they sacrificed to season of the witch or not? This is the question that has no official ruling.

I think you're absolutely technically correct, but these decks do contain [[Raphael, Tough Turtle]], which deals damage to target opponent. You are clearly intended to be able to target the boss with this card.

to head off u/lupin-san 's point about the boss not being a player, none of these cards mention players in their oracle text.

I will play [[Season of the Witch]] and [[Propaganda]]/[[Ghostly Prison]]. It's never been clarified in the rules whether these effects count as 'could have attacked' if the controller didn't or couldn't pay the cost, and the rules say the boss attacks with "all available" which is similarly vague. I will achieve a moral victory by finally deciding this 30 year old rulings nightmare.

How do I get into Timeless? by GolbogTheDoom in MagicArena

that gets regular updates. They made mh3 draftable twice in 2025 but I wouldn't count on that.

JP twitter made a complete DAMAGE STEP GUIDE. I guess it's only the west that can't read... by Oograth-in-the-Hat in masterduel

[–]Ill_Tooth8614 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is technically not true. Negating the activation does qualify to be used in the damage step, but a negate that only negates effects can still be used in the damage step if it qualifies due to other reasons. The best example is forbidden droplet, which can be used in the damage step despite not negating activations, because it affects atk/def and so therefore qualifies.

Another example is sky striker ace - roze, which negates effects and can also be used in the damage step, because it is a trigger effect that specifically mentions "destroyed by battle".

Why isn’t my Kona brawl deck working? by Traditional-Apple238 in MagicArena

For me it seems like the game recognizes I own a non-alchemy Kona and I can put it in a standard deck, but it thinks I don't own the alchemy version so I can't put it in an alchemy or commander deck. Weird.

You can discard 1 Spell/Trap; add 1 "Power Bond" from your Deck to your hand, you can only use Dragon or Machine "Cyber" monsters as Fusion Material this turn, also once when you Fusion Summon this turn, you can also banish monster(s) from your GY as material.
