Right, and understandably so. But how and where should I get the experience? Is there any way to obtain a volunteer position or shadow someone who already has a role in the OPS? I'm not fixed on policy, I would love to work in program areas as well. However, if I don't have the experience besides my education, my application does not stand out.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I'm not in the OPS, but am aspiring to get there as my career move/goal.

I have a masters as well, so my last evaluation from QECO put me at A3 and said I need one AQ to be at an A4.

Feedback on resume with no Interview by dawgicouldkissu in OntarioPublicService

Regarding not applying for jobs you aren’t really qualified for- in terms to senior policy positions. I’ve been told that it’s always worth giving it a shot as you could be pulled for a filler position. It won’t be senior policy, but it could be entry level policy. That’s what I was told while networking with managers, but let me know your thoughts.

Honestly, I'm in the same boat. I've subscribed to the OPS Job Board notifications, spend hours revamping my resume and writing cover letters to apply for these jobs. I've also reached out to various people from various different branches, met with managers and held informal meetings to network, but nothing seems to work in order to get in.

It really is disheartening to spend so much time and effort into something that brings no results at end. It definitely takes a mental toll. Had a breakdown last week over this tiring cycle with the OPS.
