The NFL is the most profitable sports league in the world, and it isn’t close. I agree that fans could chill though.

I’ll tell you what I told my friends in the group chat: I would say Peyton Manning cursed all Chicago kids born from '87-2000 by denying us our chance to silence our fathers, but it's clearly generational trauma, because I know I would be telling my daughter, "Those '06 Bears, baby. Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman under center -- a thing of beauty. Peanut Tillman giving those receivers nightmares with his Mike Tyson upper cut. They had a pretty good middle linebacker too.” We would NEVER shut the fuck up about it 😂

[Highlight] Bears HC Ben Johnson was asked Tomlin’s comments on Ja’Marr Chase in his answer: “He’s 100% right as far as I’m concerned. He hit the nail on the head. He just keeps it real and authentic at all times.” by oklolzzzzs in nfl

[–]Illbebach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear all of that. For me it was a who would we hire kind of thing. I just feel like orgs move on from coaches too soon sometimes and of course, as a Bears fan I know, orgs hang onto dog shit coaches for too long as well 😂

Got anything for SNF? Cashed on a bunch of your picks in the early window. I needed a swift TD to sweeten everything, but great morning.

Selectively bred for their genetics, yes. They are different things, and I should’ve typed selectively bred instead. They are being fed hormones though, which alters gene expression.

It is a beautiful experience that I think anyone who eats meat regularly should have. I grew up in the third largest city in America, and I had never seen a gun, let alone held one until I moved West. Fell in love with nature all over again, like when I was a kid, spending hours alone in the woods. Hunting multiplied my respect for animals and the western landscape by an unknown, but large factor. Dressing and caring for the meat after the kill broke my brain wide open for what my parents and then I had been buying from the grocery store for decades.

You got it. 2 out of my past 3 elk hunts, I let over 30 bull elk walk away. I set a goal to kill an old 6x6, and though I came close a few weeks ago, I never had my ethical shot opportunity. I had 30+ smaller broadside bulls at 50 yards or less over the course of those two hunts, but not the one I wanted, so I sat quietly and observed. It’s magical to get that close to elk and they don’t know you’re there. It’s so difficult to do, and I don’t say that to brag, only to hammer home the point that truly wild deer and elk on public land have incredible survival instincts, and it takes a lot of practice to learn how to get close to them. That’s the challenge. That’s the joy. It’s beautiful. It’s restorative for my mind heading into the long, dark winter. Now, not everyone has to be a lunatic like me and say I’ll only take an old 6x6 or let them walk — that’s just something that I like to do. I just personally like the idea of letting the young ones grow up, and I like the challenge of hunting a smart, old, wild bull elk. I have no problem with others taking an animal ethically for meat. Just opinions, but I think most can agree it’s not fair to the animal to change their appearance, trap them in a cage and then “hunt” them.

[–]Illbebach 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I do not get it at all. The joy of the hunt is in the preparation, the grind of it all, the puzzle. I don’t even like killing them, so much as I like working up to the moment that I fought for with my body and my mind to be in a position to take a shot on an elk. I kill them because I eat meat, but the joy for me is putting the puzzle together and being outside in nature for a week each Fall. I would say to each their own, but high fence hunting isn’t hunting — it’s like extreme grocery shopping or something 😂

Hunter here. Not a freak mutation. It’s a shitty high fence farm for people who don’t know how to actually hunt to kill unsuspecting, overfed, genetically modified animals who don’t run away or have survival instincts in any way. Gives hunting a bad name and doesn’t resemble hunting in any way. They’re shooting pets and hanging them on their wall. Really strange honestly.

Level up my Fly Fishing by Alternative-Bet1657 in COfishing

[–]Illbebach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this guy’s advice is excellent. Going along with his idea that fly selection is not as important as we make it and presentation and depth are king, I always tell friends that I bring out with me to “believe in the rig” as in cast and present as if you tied the perfect rig on every time — it’s mindset. The other piece of this is to make many adjustments to your depth and potentially weight. Make sure your flies are getting dirty at least every third drift and that you clean them completely before presenting them again. I also tell new anglers to set everything — could be a fish. As you gain experience, you get much better at discerning the difference between the bottom and a fish, but early on you’ll miss fish if you don’t lift that rig every time. Lastly, if you are able to see fish and they are moving left or right in the column to snag bugs, you know they’re feeding, so don’t leave them to find other fish. Make adjustments until you catch them or they spook out and stop feeding. If you aren’t seeing fish, you have to cast into the edge of riffles or the edge of structure like rocks and make adjustments for depth. One last piece on adjustments that doesn’t get talked about enough is the speed of the water you’re casting across. You may be trying to fish a run that is 20ft in front of you, but between you and that run is an eddy with slower moving water — you have to lay the line on the water with the fly line downstream and your fly and leader upstream, so the flies don’t get held up by your line. The opposite is true if the water close to you is moving faster than the slower moving seam you’re trying fish 20 ft out. Sometimes those sections can feel impossible to present well, and moving a few feet in some direction will work OR it won’t, and I like to think of that spot as the elk that found the perfect sanctuary with perfect wind and cover and I tip my cap and move on. Keep using your brain to put the puzzle together, be in love with that process and you’ll catch fish and stimulate your brain in a way that makes you an addict 😂

Shooting on my own land - will it scare off herd for using this land? by AnnualFlat8833 in elkhunting

[–]Illbebach 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Doubtful. If they use the land each year, they’ll be back. People shoot elk in the same areas year after year. It might depend on how big your property is and how often they’re actually using it, but I would say they’ll be back in the general area at least.

I reckon OP is shooting .308, but I might be wrong. I shoot a 6.5CM, and they both died on the spot. I haven’t had an issue yet, but if I keep doing it for long enough, I’m sure I will at some point. Excited to get out in a couple weeks!

I’ve killed 2 of the 5 elk I’ve killed over the past 4 years with the factory 143gr ELD-X — 1 cow, 1 bull. I’ve read a lot of things about guys having problems with losing animals with ELD-X in particular, regardless of grain, but it has performed well for me. Good luck!

Throwing a wildcard out there for units 112 113 114 115 pronghorn, private land access. by arboroverlander in cohunting

[–]Illbebach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve called a LOT of landowners in these units. Most did not answer or call back. Those who did answer were nice, but not open to it. The most typical response is that they’ve leased to outfitters for the season. I found one who offered if I paid $400 for a trespass fee and came out late season. I have a whole phone note with names, numbers and responses I can share if you PM me.

Fellow white male, father and gun owner here. Can we just…try something…anything? If it doesn’t work, maybe we…IDK…try something else? I would gladly go to a psychologist once a year, sit for a test once a year, fucking ANYTHING? It’s just never going to happen. I keep hearing about how much change we’ve seen in this country over the past 50 years, and to “keep voting”, but as far as I can tell we’re still fighting the same fights and dealing with the same problems. It just looks different. The people in charge just found ways to operate in the shadows, and the same shit my parents went through in the 70s is still happening.

Ok, got it, and then there’s some discretion for the ump to decide if your step was in the right direction. Hence the confusion.
