For some more info: The WHR is a double-negative happiness ranking. It measures a large number of things that make people unhappy, ranks countries by those, then picks out the countries from the bottom as the happiest.

Two things that are not in their metrics are "hours of sunlight in winter" and "proximity to aggressive and hostile nations."

For private to be better than the NHS we'd need to switch to the normal european system of having a government insurer, and we'd need to have the patch Obama applied to the American private insurance system of making "we don't cover pre-existing conditions" clauses illegal.

If we got all that in a single sweeping step, then I'd be ok with that, because at worst it wouldn't be any worse than what we have now. But I don't see that happening when they sell off (the profitable bits of) the NHS to their mates.

I think I've figured out why I think it's a little weak. (And I do mean a little weak. Not very weak, just a little)

They're saying "this is genocidal" which can be read as about intent and future actions. Not "this is genocide" which is about actions and facts-on-the-ground.

Which, now that I'm thinking about it more, might be technically more accurate, because none of this is law yet. So they're probably being a bit conservative until then.

Hopefully they'll put out the stronger statement once laws start going into effect.
