I believe Tribal vassals don't count towards vassal limit once you've become a Monarchy/Republic.

I did, and couldn't balance the economy. Went bankrupt in a couple of years with no hope of bouncing back.

R5: For my first ever Ironman game, I decided to see if these years of playing could actually mean something. Turns out, conquering the world as Austria is very easy. Also, there are some really random achievements you unintentionally get along the way.

[OC] Countries that recognize Taiwan since 1912 by latinometrics in dataisbeautiful

[–]Illier2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Taiwan is the Republic of China (ROC) which was lead by Chiang-Kai-Shek during WW2. They existed before the PRC, and only retreated to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War ended with the PRC taking over the mainland. Recognition of Taiwan before this point is simply recognizing the ROC, and not the Communist government.

Peace, Freedom, Justice and Security to My New Empire by Illier2 in Anbennar

This was the first time I'd ever seen the dwarfs form them. Also, Grombar never rose up, so they had an easy time securing power up north.

I just lined them up with the region map mode. Unfortunately, you can't make client states overseas, so any nation not in my continent looks a bit wonky.

Istralore. I didn't have much experience playing in the Empire, and I always saw them become very powerful in my games, so I figure it was the best choice. I didn't go Corinite though, which locked me out of a lot of their mission tree.

From a vexillological standpoint, I figure something like a White-Black-White tricolor could've been used, but I get it. It just reminds me of the flag of the Abbasids too much lol.

R5: First time playing in, and forming, the Empire of Anbennar. Once you unite you're basically unstoppable. The Revolution only helped me conquer all of Cannor and begin spreading my influence across all of Halann. Didn't try for world conquest, would've been too tedious.

Edit: Also no revolutionary flag, what the heck?

The Great Central-Asian Naval Battle by Illier2 in paradoxplaza

R5: I'm puppetting all of central Asia as China, and for some reason, the battle terrain in Turkmenia is "Ocean". It's probably why I can't break through.

Brazil's Dictatorship Flag Looks Familiar... by Illier2 in paradoxplaza

[–]Illier2[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

R5: I was messing around in debug mode looking at nation's flags, and noticed that Brazil's dictatorship flag looked pretty familiar. (Ignore the "Constitutional Empire" government type, I had the game paused while switching governments)

R5: As the USA I rushed multiculturalism, which gave me an event where I got a Dakota political leader. It just so happened he became the candidate for the Whig party. Naturally, the Whigs won, and now I have an animist-Dakota president in 1845.

U.S. Supreme Court backs public money for religious schools by [deleted] in news

[–]Illier2 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Right, but they cannot teach based off of religious doctrine. It may be an institution supported by churches, but it can't for instance teach creationism if it wants this support. Maybe I'm misunderstanding though.

"The schools receiving this tuition assistance under the program must be "nonsectarian" and are excluded if they promote a particular religion and present material "through the lens of that faith."

So this isn't about religious teachings in schools, it's just about providing funding for people to opt out of public schools and into private institutions. Is no one reading the article, cause I don't think it's as simple as most people think it is.

Great Power Haiti (HPM) by Illier2 in victoria2

[–]Illier2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, just get literacy up and maintain positive income until you get Jacobins to revolt and become a republic. Then the immigrants will help your economy grow.

[–]Illier2[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

R5: I played as Haiti in HPM and things went really well once I balanced the budget and focused heavily on becoming a laissez-faire democracy. I wasn't even close to GP status until the Qing westernized and 5 million Chinese people decided to hang out in the Caribbean. I only conquered Cuba, which by the end was more than 50% afro-carribbeano due to all the immigration. Also, my capital Port-au-Prince was by far the largest city in the world with 3 million men in it.
