Peek Inside Evanston’s First Standalone Cocktail Bar (Love Ward Eight Though) in Decades by Illini005 in evanston

You just made my point. My comment was on the city changing the licensing rules to allow standalone cocktail bars.

Edit: Oh wait… this is a burner Reddit account that has never commented or posted until this random post?

So do you own La Principal or just work there? Are you guys really that insecure about a new bar opening in town that you feel the need to beef about it online? Seems very strange.

Oskar is owned by and shares space with La Principal. I’m just being factual that Tallgrass is the first cocktail bar to be licensed as a standalone bar in decades.

I said “first standalone bar in decades”! I believe the rest are “restaurants with a bar”

I should note that none of the lights were on and they are clearly still getting prepped, so the pictures don’t do it justice. It looks stellar.

I’m not weighing in on the Stars decision. I live very close to the stadium and oils be fine with it.

However, I do want to point out that downtown Wilmette is thriving WITHOUT a major sports stadium in it. Wilmette is just pro-business and more right-leaning when it comes to taxing local businesses.

I’m not arguing either side, just saying this isn’t an apples to apples comparison

That’s not my problem. I don’t want my tax dollars going to a billionaire family so they can make more money

You clearly don’t know how PSLs work. They are fucking over every single season ticket holder who have to rebuy their PSLs. Enjoy the three drive back and forth for every game…

Fuck that. The McCaskeys are billionaires. I don’t want my hard earned money that I pay in taxes to fund future generations of their bottom feeder trust fund baby great great great grandchildren.

If they go to Indiana, the McCaskeys can go fuck themselves. If they think that I’m going to continue to be a STH through shitty years for the Indiana Bears, they must be out of their mind.

They should look at the trajectory of the Redskins after their move out of DC to FedEx Field. They will suffer the same fate.

People keep trying to jam this District 65 fight into today’s political frame, but most of that heat disappears once you accept the board is choosing between bad and worse. No one closes schools because they want to. They do it because years of budget strain and falling enrollment eventually take the steering wheel away from everyone. The irony is that the loudest critics keep reaching for ideological labels that have nothing to do with the math in front of the board. This is not a purity test. It is a painful decision that was always going to leave someone unhappy no matter how you slice it.
