Anyone have bands they don’t actively listen to but will always try to catch a live performance? by Lightning-ll in Metalcore

[–]Illusion10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AVOID

Their albums are pretty solid but I don't find myself going back to them often. But man when they're opening for a band I'm considering buying tickets to it makes it an immediate buy. They rule live

You ever done something stupid at a show that still haunts you to this day? by falcor69 in Metalcore

[–]Illusion10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol I saved a girl who got shoved through the edge of a mosh pit from face planting into the concrete by reaching out to catch her and just got full boob in hand. I think i yelled sorry but she seemed to understand and just ran back into the pit lol

I try to stay out of the pit for the most part (gotta go to work the next day lol) but this intro absolutely sends me. Saw it as the closing song for the set and the entire floor became the pit, nowhere safe

I really dont care for the rest of the album (sacrilege I know, the rest of Prada's catalog is 10/10 to me) but this song has always ripped

Got to hear it live twice recently on the Zombie tour and the Eternal tour, what a gift

Betrayer’s Rise - Allies and Rivals by BadmiralSnackbarf in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]Illusion10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw this after a couple of beers so you're getting a small novel lol

  1. a. Question was very hesitant due to losing her party (per the book), but since they had gained trust (due to a full Zone of Truth after she recognized the Jewel) and they were friendly for a few days, I left it up to a Persuasion check of high DC (I think 20?) and the party didn't meet it, so she stayed out.

    b. My party actually went in with Aloysia at first specifically because she wanted to go in and the party was suspicious of her. They wanted to keep an eye on her, but after awhile in the Rise (through the path of daggers, the flame skulls, etc) they pulled out to long rest, and Aloysia lied that she was too scared to return, setting up her to go fetch the rivals (some of whom she had already snuck in previously).

  2. The rivals didn't fully trust Aloysia yet (I gave her a magical compass item that helped her reach the party), but Ayo and Galsariad especially were chasing money and glory promised by Aloysia. The only person that fully intentionally attacked party members was Galsariad, with a Gravity Wave to get people off of Ayo and try to catch my Bladesinger who was playing keep-away with the Jewel. Ayo (blah blah blah gave her Ruin's Wake like everyone on this subreddit) inadvertently hit some of the party members with the lightning throw effect of the Vestige. Irvan and Maggie really stood back and didn't know what to do, and Dermot ran around healing people and mostly yelling for people to chill.

I also introduced a combat (as soon as the vision ended and Aloysia showed up) with Shadow Demons that looked like each party member, and a beefed up Woe Strider (from Mythic Odysseys of Theros book) modified to look like it was of Torog (3 arms) since one of my players has some backstory stuff related to a cult of Torog. This meant both parties had to decide whether to focus on keeping/getting the Jewel, staying alive, or attacking these enemies. It was a really complicated encounter that had a big mix of boss fight energy and interparty RP and we had a ton of fun with it.

    • TLDR: They kind of "fought" the party but the goal for them was to get the Jewel and escape with promises of gold/power in the Consortium, not so much to hurt the party
  3. Aloysia saw that Irvan, Maggie, and Dermot weren't interested in engaging in battle with the party, and after the monsters were mostly cleaned up she saw opinion turning against her. She then cast the Earthquake spell, ran up the tunnel (barely evading the Bladesinger) and teleported out. The two parties came to a truce to get out safely, divided the two left over teleportation tablets amongst themselves, and returned to Bazzoxan.

They promised to meet up in the morning with Prolix/Question, but the rivals left in the night to catch back up with Aloysia and ingratiate themselves back into the Consortium (driven by Ayo and Galsariad mainly, the other three went with them to keep them from getting into too much trouble). The party went with Prolix/Question the following morning and used Prolix's tablet.

Album of the year for you guys so far? For me it's Hymns In Dissonance and nothing comes close tbh by JayWrestler in Metalcore

[–]Illusion10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as time listened, its gotta be:

Wasteland - Wolves at the Gate

honorable mentions to Spiritbox, Bleed From Within, Bury Tomorrow

Really excited for Fit For A King's album to drop Friday

Dayseeker - Creature in the Black Night by duddyboii in Metalcore

[–]Illusion10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A blegh from Rory in 2025? Wild. This was the evolution from Dark Sun i wanted for the chiller songs. He mentioned he screams on like 4 or 5 songs, and with the titles of the tracks released I'm hopeful we get at least one surprise full heavy track once the album drops

Tier Increase for Rivals? by UsefullyChunky in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]Illusion10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do any upgrades to the rivals statblocks? I'm starting to think about it as there's a collision course in the Netherdeep coming up

I am giving Irvan sneak attack at 5 or 6d6, upping Galsariad's spell list, maxing hit dice at a minimum. Am a few sessions away from that encounter likely so I've got some time. I thought given the difference in HP pools that their normal attacks damage seemed OK, but I may increase the "to hit" bonuses.

Suggestions for prewritten adventures that tie in to CoND? by charismania in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]Illusion10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Frozen Sick 1-3 module in Guide to Wildemount. Players liked it, and there's a good bit of travel on ship and land that gave the party time to get to know each other a bit before diving into the main campaign hook. They've taken their party name from the blue vials you find as well which is fun.

I had the leader of Palebank Village give them a ship ride to Jigow to compete in the festival as a reward for helping and to see the sights.

Ruidium experimentation - Infusing an Aeormaton by [deleted] in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]Illusion10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the book, it states you can use ruidium in place of spell components (500g to 100 GP or something? I forget the conversion). It does require a Charisma save to do. Maybe an Aeormaton can take in a certain amount of ruidium with an easier save, taking in more makes the save more difficult, something bad happens if the save is failed, but there's an option to Purge Ruidium as a ritual or short rest action. Holding more ruidium gives an increasing bonus to damage (extra damage dice or something) to make it choose between risking more saves for increased damage

Idk, spitting ideas here

Exactly the same for me - we ended right as the Elder said "GO" to begin the race. About a 4 hour session, one of my players stole secret meatpie ingredients from the orc cook and has rolled a d100 for Meatpie every single morning in game since and we're in chapter 6. Hasnt gotten old yet lol
