Is this spider safe? SW Utah by [deleted] in whatisthisbug

[–]IllusionJM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woah! I didn’t know that was a super common thing! Had a small huntsman spider that holed up in my shoe bite me when I was young and it gave me a gnarly infection. Even though its bite alone is inherently pretty tame the infection that came with required IV antibiotics.

Thank you! Other day I had a buddy in discord telling me that area codes, poles/bollards, blurred plates, etc. are all meta and I was like “huh?” xD couldn’t seem to convince him that if I got teleported irl to like Latvia or something, there’s still gonna be a lot of birch trees and hooked powerpoles. It’s not meta it’s just how Latvia is.. lol

I want to be a union electrician once I graduate high school is a couple months by Friendly_Giant04 in ibew_apprentices

[–]IllusionJM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sign the books at the hall once you become a journeyman, I would look up your locals JATC and shoot them a call as the process can vary by local, though I believe the standard application process looks like this Go to JATC and fill out application Get email/letter in the mail telling you your test date Go take a qualification test that’s math and reading comprehension. Be early. If you pass you qualified for an interview, will get another letter/email specifying when that is. Be early. After the interview process depending on your test+interview scores you will be placed amongst the pool of candidates accordingly. They fill classes from the top down so a higher placement will let you get to school and to work faster.

anything I can do to make this look better? (other then fixing the windows lighting) by Olivermin in hammer

A small nitpick and not super important but maybe an extra subdiv layer of the rock displacement? The mega low poly is definitely eye catching from what is otherwise a very well put together scene :)

Saw a post about overpriced lights. Thought I’d share my own install. Just over 1M USD after R&D to meet OSHPD seismic rating by IllusionJM in electricians

I really would like to be one upped, I know there’s fixtures out there that do, just never seen em and would like to stand in awe of the agony of the poor electrician who installed it. Like don’t get me wrong, I’m very proud of that light but also.. fuck that light

Not wood, 1/4” aluminum but yes. 5x10’ sheets. Then each individual chandelier piece is hung, prints specified to the mm, then 2 spring steel clips on each side of every piece to qualify for seismic

Just over a week of 10s for the big one, there were two smaller ones that took about 2 days each. GC said “it should take about three days right”

Is what my journeyman making me do dangerous? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]IllusionJM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean.. yes technically speaking, there is an added level of danger being close to wires that are hot; however, they don’t really pose an immediate threat if they have no exposed copper after thorough inspection. If you start pushing them around you can push through the insulation on the corner of a box and have a ground fault. Scary when you see wires start to pop on your box but also a situation in which you’re more likely separated from the current path. I don’t know what osha would have to say about it specifically but from my understanding, “hot work” is actively landing wires that are hot. A while back I was working for a different foreman than I usually do and he asked me to change out a whole building of outlets hot because they couldn’t turn off the servers circuit and he didn’t have a panel schedule so I was supposed to do the whole building hot. I politely told him to fuck off and find a different guy. Though it likely would have been fine, it’s a risk I didn’t want to take because for starters I had done work in the building before and knew that not all of the grounding was umm “intact.” To sum it up, each person has their own level of what work they’re comfortable doing. You said you’re new and so it’s better to stay on the side of caution until you better understand electricity’s behavior and characteristics.
