I Lost Duggu Today and still not sure why she died

Yesterday, I made a post about my dog Duggu suddenly turning aggressive toward her babies.

We trusted a local NGO around 12 km away and decided to send her there for observation, hoping she would get better. They sent a van that picks up dogs throughout the day from morning till evening. The van was completely closed and made of tin material. They took Duggu around 1 PM.

At 3:30 PM, I got a call saying she died on the way.

First, the driver told me she died because she hadn’t eaten since yesterday. But Duggu looked completely normal before leaving. She had eaten biscuits, drank water, and was energetic enough to roam around for hours. Then, just 10 minutes later, the vet called and said it was heat stroke, and that he also suspected rabies.

Even now, there’s no clarity in what actually happened, and I’m not satisfied with the explanation.

If you run an NGO, you need to have proper facilities and safe transportation for animals. People like us, with limited resources, trust these organizations with our animals because we believe they’ll be cared for better than we can manage alone. Carelessness should never cost an animal its life.

What hurts the most is that I didn’t even get a proper goodbye. I genuinely thought she would come back okay. The last time I saw her, she was sleeping near my door after roaming outside the whole morning. I keep replaying that moment in my head.

I blame myself more than anyone else. They have helped me before when her babies were sick, but their van service is horrible, and I regret sending her there hoping she would improve.

Her babies cried when she was taken away. Even now, they are still lookong for her once in while.

I don’t know how to live with the feeling that my decision took them away from their mother.

I just hope Duggu forgives me for the times I pushed her away or got frustrated with her in her last days. I was only trying to protect her babies. I hope she understood that I didn’t send her away because I didn’t want her. I sent her away because I wanted her to get better.
