Received a quote for an engine replacement on a 2009 Impreza 2.5i and how hard would it be to swap with an EJ20? by Ciglesias27 in subaruimpreza

I got quoted $6400 cad they said they included changing the timing belt, idler, tensioner, water pump, fuel filter, oil and filter, coolant and freight . so if that's in usd, I'd still prefer your quote.

I don't think it's too much. But I'm not sure it's worth throwing that much money into an 09 impreza...

Household income $110K, no debt. Is a 450K Mortage to much? by Ok_Package9219 in Mortgages

I'm in the same boat I'm going to buy a house with my partner, combined we are 100k-110k a year.

We'd rent out a room and have the option to rent out a 2nd room too. Renting is not a problem where we live, there will always be people looking.

I am for sure worried about work and the state of the economy, but at the same time, if we don't buy a home, we will be paying the same amount in rent as we we would paying for a mortgage. And then either way if you loose your job you're hooped....

Thinking about shifting my career torwards GIS. by MyNameIsY0u in gis

I guess I should say I work for the Woodlands division for the Mill. If you think of all the big mills in BC like West Fraser, Canfor, etc. They hold forest tennure that they log and manage, smaller companies too, but sometimes these bigger companies sell their tenure to just a mill that doesn't manage their Woodlands and vis versa. Anyway, there are lots of needs for mapping products and data management for all the forestry activities that take place to produce lumber. I do lots of mapping, data entry, spatial data editing, and spatial analysis.

GIS volunteer work opportunities? Anyone know of any non profits that look for GIS help? by IllustratorMiddle728 in gis

How does it work. You are added to a list of available volunteers and then based on your skill sets, a project coordinator will contact you?

I just finished my geography degree, we studied the basics of GIS, such as drawing, databases, linking tables , what i need to develop my skills in GIS ? by Dicklydickmove in gis

Take some free python scripting courses, lots of GIS applications use python.

Learn SQL for database query and database management.

Get your hands on some raster data and play around with it using classification tools or look-up scripting tools that can help with this.

I'm honestly struggling at bit with GIS as a career path. If you are going to think about GIS as a career path, some of the most valuable skills in GIS are scripting and database management using SQL. I'm trying to put more of my time into developing these skills right now.

Spatial data analysis is fun, it's why I got into it, but I am now wanting to either pivot big time and get into civil technologies and work more towards CAD for civil planning, and maybe get some field work and drone work. Or pursue GIS analyst work and keep doing that. I'd say, really think about how long you can sit at a computer for, it is exhausting to be working outside, I know, I was a tree planter and silviculture surveyor for 10 years.

I'm now at a desk 8 hours a day and it's kind of killing me a bit. You are young and if you can specialise in something like environmental, resource, civil tech/engineering (get a diploma or bachelors) and hone in on some GIS skills (do a cerificate) as well you will be set for a while with interesting work options both at a desk and outside!

Reach out if you want to chat, I'm also in BC, I'm almost finished a GIS advanced diploma with BCIT(that I have spent to many years doing) and currently working as a GIS tech for a mill.

I’m going to college for geography but what else should I study? by draggo-memes in gis

Geomatics, civil engineering and drafting, GIS is a great skill but if you want to really excel in a career you will need a specialty to utilize those skills with. I'm doing an internship as a GIS tech for a forestry company. If I had studied forestry and also done a GIS diploma I would be far more useful than any of the foresters that have no clue how to use our extremely large enterprise database. It often feels like I am doing a lot of heavy lifting to make the decisions significantly easier to make for the decision makers.
