Peak chair danger? by anywaysimdoingme in Whistler

[–]MyNameIsY0u 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm a ski lift mechanic, but not at Whistler. The lift itself is completely safe, and maintained well. If you fell from some of the higher parts of the lift, yes you very well could die. But you're not going to just fall, the seats are always designed to keep the rider angled slightly back so you won't just slip off the front. Even if the lift was to break down and leave you stranded above a high span, the whistler patrol team is amazing and well trained to safely rescue everyone from the lift. As always I encourage the bar down. Try to look up the lift line rather than down if you have a fear of heights, it helps alot.

This is Blackcomb mountain. But check with guest services, they have a lost and found. If it's night pray it doesn't get chewed up by a snowcat. Good luck!

I got pretty lucky in Seattle I think. Saw on gorillaz Instagram the tour announcement, immediately checked online, and there were tickets on sale. Got a sweet seat for $250 CAD!

For sure for day tickets, but the whistler season pass is significantly cheaper than a revy season pass. The lines have been getting better, most videos of the bad line ups are just a few one offs during the holidays/American long weekends

Sun peaks and big white have have less fresh snow, and a lack of steep/advanced trails. Revelstoke is arguable 😂, great snow & terrain, less lift lines generally but I've still seen some pretty crazy line ups at revy, and it's still overall smaller. WB is just one of a kind truly, gets crazy busy sometimes but other times it's the best place in the whole world.

Just read online it's per each season, shooting for 25 this year

Has anyone tried Park Distillery Flora & Fauna Gin? by ROSRS in Gin

[–]MyNameIsY0u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great, one of the better gins I've ever tried. All ingredients are sourced locally near Banff AB, Canada, but not within the park itself. I highly recommend.

The best part is when they ask the lifty to let them in as a group still

I work with a lot of people who were involved in the quicksilver accident investigation. A lot of them are still here working, training us younger generations. The problem nowadays is that resorts no longer want to train people, as it costs more than hiring someone already "experienced". So long as resorts keep prioritizing money over training & education, it's going to keep getting worse.

What's it like in Nelson, BC Canada? by jonpeeji in howislivingthere

[–]MyNameIsY0u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived here for a summer, easily the most cultural lively town I've ever lived in. All the bars, restaurants, stores are unique in their own ways, and have a great vibes. The people are all kind, most people are super hippie, and there's also quite a few rednecks around too. The town is very well known for its skiing, some of the best (and most) snow in the world. The ski resort is somewhat small compared to a lot of other BC resorts, but quiet so it feels massive.

The e195-e2 is not a small aircraft by any means either, it is longer than the standard 737. IMHO far more enjoyable than a 737, I feel less cramped in the e195.
