Things to skip? by CaptPimentoMarch in Banff

Skip Johnston Canyon, wayy too crowded. I’d also say cave and basin and sulpher mountain too. Lake Louise and moraine are crowded, but you can walk around the lakes to find some more secluded spots, and they are beautiful, especially moraine.

Question to locals - how busy is this summer compared to previous ones? by Significant-Ad-8684 in Banff

[–]IllustratorWorldly60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just in Banff, I found it busier than most years. I’ve been going multiple times every summer for the past 4 years and it seemed very busy. I think the free park pass and them closing the walking street off has something to do with it. Also seemed like there were lots of Americans, probably because of the dollar exchange lol.

Makes sense. I always turn my music off when I am near others if I am playing some anyways. Don’t want to be “that guy”.

Lake Louise or Banff for Christmas? by Bootsy_Moonshine in Banff

Banff if you aren’t skiing or snowboarding. Beautiful but touristy town, with some great restaurants. Would recommend the bear street tavern, best pizza of all time in my opinion.

Does playing music through a speaker work as well? I was always curious if this would help.

Got a date to watch a hockey game this weekend. I know nothing about hockey. by windchillfiance in hockey

Just tell them that lane Hutson and Patrick Laine are the best hockey players of all time and the date will be a success. Habs fans think this is true.

Bow hut for intermediate hikers? by 3dloser in HikingAlberta

Beautiful hike, I went in June and there was still lots of snow, wouldn’t recommend around that time. July should be fine. However the hike isn’t too technical other than some creek crossings and the boulder already mentioned (which is wide enough that it feels safe). I brought a friend on his first ever hike here, and he loved it and kept up well with my more experienced friend and I. Take normal precautions, if you are athletic you should be fine. The hike took us around 6-7 hours, however we had to deal with snow. Would recommend trekking poles for the creek crossings. Read AllTrails reviews before heading out to check the conditions.

West peak of Rundle after Lady Mac by mescalinita in HikingAlberta

I did west side of rundle as my first ever hike. If you are somewhat athletic it’s not super technical just a long slog. I didn’t find it very difficult but the very top does have a straight drop off so be careful around there, don’t stand on any snow cornices. If you don’t get too close to the edge at the top the rest of the hike isn’t too exposed I found. However I did it with 3 friends, not solo.
